"The comments have been made by the chairwoman of the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC), Sara Thornton, and Craig Mackey, the deputy commissioner of the Met Police"
After over 5 years of dave in Number Ten and Osborne in Number 11, it seems that 25% to 40% of cuts in the imminent spending review.
We know that people like to see Police on the beat, so will we all be happy when the Police have these drastic cuts applied to their budgets ?

/// AOG
Straight question.
Do you agree with with stopping police beat patrols? ///
Yes in certain areas where there is no need for them, in fact they must have stopped in my area years ago, as I haven't seen one in years.
But you also have to take into consideration, that bobbies don't ride around on bikes much now, they have the use of motor cars, vans and helicopters.

I look back what I said at 0909. Then I read how this thread ends up.
The usual bash the old bill agenda. I have never seen support for the police from most of the contributors to this OP. So what's new. When police cuts might affect them they start whingeing and carping themselves.
They would be the first to moan if the police got a pay rise. That police force they would deny the right to strike for better conditions and pay whilst policing strikers who can. Those police who have to clear up the mess and deal with incidents those who show no support would dare go near.
I no longer care what people's personal worries are about police cuts.
As usual it turns out that posters are not concerned about the police officers problem due to cuts. They worry about themselves and the crimes that may affect themselves but still revel in the opportunity to bash the bill at every chance.

ummmm
Ask a police officer what the morale of the police is like at the moment and the support he can expect from the general public he is supposed to protect.
Not for nothing do they buy and wear badges with a union flag with a thin blue line going through it. Or the nice little badges with TJF on top of a policeman's helmet.

no it isn't. but it's depressingly predictable that a thread on AB about the police will often get derailed when someone brings up the matter of a death at their hands. usually it's mark duggan or jean-charles de menezes, but blair peach or jimmy kelly will do just as well.

Talbot.
I didn't mention Blair Peach. I mentioned an efficient (cheap) group of police officers in the SPG. I said due to the whim of the left it was disbanded as a result of a death at a demo. It was a point made that the public hollered for justice and they lost a very cost effective crime fighting unit as a result.
I believe Gromit brough the name into the debate.
an inconclusive
