“What happened to the plan that the Jungle was to be bulldozed last week by the French government? Where did this bunch of pirates spring from?” Alas, retro, like many things you read in the news, that was really smoke and mirrors.. The plan was to bulldoze around one third of the encampment and transfer the occupants to shipping containers, suitably...

This was not the first time, Webbo.
I was actually in the Port of Calais waiting for my ferry about three years ago when the port was invaded by about five hundred migrants. None managed to get aboard a ship (only because they closed the bow doors and pulled away from the pier). It was not a pretty sight and it was the last time I travelled to France.
I use the word "invasion" to describe these and similar scenes which I think is perfectly appropriate. People accuse me of using hysterical language, but then they've not witnessed such scenes.

I am sure that the Royal Navy would be happy to loan a few platoons of their finest to man steam hoses and batons on the vessels of our Merchant Navy to repel boarders. Of course off the coast of Somalia pirates are dealt with a little less gently by the Russian marines who protect their merchant vessels!!

I believe our over stretched and abused servicemen and women have enough enemies within their own government having to justify events that happened well into the past. Pulling the trigger on an unarmed rabble of dross would jump straight into the ambulance chasers lap wouldn't it. As if they they don't already have enough to worry about !!
