This report is over a year old, why have the UK still not took action?

So, if I bought beef or lamb sausages from, say Sainsbury's, should I be able to tell ?
I am not sure where the law stand here...perhaps somebody could enlighten me.

Naomi...we have a few halal butchers here in Swansea, so its a good guess that all their meat is halal.
You can exercise your choice of whether to shop for meat in these shops or not. I use one occasionally for fruit and veg and for "exotic" foods. But I have yet to see a sign up in any mainline supermarket saying whether goods are halal or not.
My best guess, and I may be wrong, is that the main supermarkets do not sell halal meat.

jomifl - //a-h, killing any creature could be considered cruel to some degree but gratuitous and unecessary cruelty is unacceptable. I recently saw a video of cruelty in a French 'organic' slaughter house where sheep were thrown into pens by operatives who were obviously unfit to work with animals. //
I am intrigued why anyone would wish to apply degrees of cruelty to the treatment of dumb animals.
All animals slaughtered are treated inhumanely - that is a simple fact - I fail to see why the fact that some are treated worse than others is an issue at all. If you wish to make a point about cruelty, then the umbrella situation is there. It is pointless to be especially aggrieved because some operatives do not meet what you see as acceptable standards of behaviour.
Slaughterhouse operatives need, as a requirement of the job they do, to have less than no feelings whatsoever for the animals they handle. Why then, should they bother if they are not especially gentle, when they don't care wither way.
But, and this is the point I struggle with - why are people up in arms about one halal abattoir, when all slaughterhouses anywhere in the world are all places of routine cruelty to animals?

Mikey, //My best guess, and I may be wrong, is that the main supermarkets do not sell halal meat. //
It seems they do - but the animals are stunned before slaughter.

Not sure what the rest of the quote is, but what a very strange attitude from a Chrrstian!
I don't object to the cruel slaughter of the animal - which is against God's teaching, but I have got myself het up about the fact that a heathen mumbles words over it first!
Bizarre!

All very well saying these supermarkets do sell Hal-aL meat but the animals are stunned first but is that what the Muslim run abbatoirs tell the Supermarkets. Patently they do not as secret filming proves. Unless there is an Independent observer we do not see what goes on unless it is filmed secretly. They couldn't lie straight in bed.
I have just watched a 14 min clip of an American/Muslim rancher telling us how wonderful it is for his sheep and goats to be slaughtered with a prayer. He actually tells the camera that animals are multi lingual and understand the power of prayer and that makes it all right to kill them without stunning them.
Hideous,Barbaric Moron.!

/// All animals slaughtered are treated inhumanely - that is a simple fact ///
That is simply not a fact, the animals are stunned first before they are slaughtered, slaughter without effective pre-stunning causes unacceptable suffering.
/// But, and this is the point I struggle with - why are people up in arms about one halal abattoir, when all slaughterhouses anywhere in the world are all places of routine cruelty to animals? ///
There can't possibly be only one halal abattoir, and the reason people are up in arms is because it is in these slaughter houses that the animal is not stunned first, so consequently they are not free from pain at the time of their death.
