Followers of Judaism and Islam have a tradition of separating women from men in several different scenarios.

The Oscars example you gave doesn't make sense, because culturally, we do not separate women from men, nor black people from white people because we are not Jewish or Muslim, nor are we living in South Africa in the 70s.

It would be outrageous for an event (using your Oscars metaphor) to separate black people in the audience from white people, and yes - if it ever happened, there would rightly be a storm of protest...and the reason why is that there is absolutely no social construct for it.

It wouldn't make any sense.

There are a whole host of social practices that those with faith follow that are not applicable to the rest of us. For instance, if the British government decreed that all forms of birth control and abortion were to be made illegal, there would be an uproar...because this isn't a Catholic country.

However, because of religious observance, in Catholic countries, this is accepted without question.

Do you see the difference?

By the way, would it be possible for you to enter the debate without chucking insults around? It only makes people want to insult you back, and that really doesn't get us anywhere.

I agree that the inequality thing hasn't been fully explained here. Certainly Islam has some serious answers to give with regards to women's rights, but this example doesn't really make sense.
///By the way, would it be possible for you to enter the debate without chucking insults around?///

Stop now, you're making my sides ache.
Okay Svejk...but do you get my point about religious observance, with the Catholic/birth control example?

I reckon that's a more fitting analogy than the Oscars example you gave.

What are your thoughts?

It's been absolutely amazing the responses I have received from this thread, here we have a classic case of Muslim's treatment of women.

But do the usual AB women's libbers come out in protest at an obvious case of the segregation of women, practiced not in the Middle East, but in one of England's seat of learning.

We have had numerous post from those who cannot link segregation to inequality, those who wish to link it with certain British men's clubs and golf clubs etc. and even history lessons on the treatment of women by the British in long off days.

Yes it must have been hard for some, wanting to speak out for their particular lobby, while not to be seen criticising ethnic minorities in this case Muslims.

Which is just the same as the gay lobby, they will shout loud and clear on the UK's church's attitude to gay marriages, certain hoteliers attitude to gay guests, or even at bakeries that refuse to decorate a cake with a certain message, while at the same time they will go out of their way to stand up for Muslims, even though their attitude towards gays is much more serious, their practice of throwing them off high buildings is just one example.

And so far not one post removed, is there a message here somewhere. :0)
The point is that your question said
''This from a Group Who Are Always Demanding Equality''
When it is about an Islamic group who are definitely NOT demanding equality
at least not for women!
Question Author
It is all about their hypocrisy, they demand equality and more from us, while they themselves show no equality between men and women.
Yep hypocrisy.

Yours, not theirs.
Oh dear.
I see this thread has had to receive several nudges from the OP to try to set it off in the direction he hoped it would take.....alas to no avail.

I'm sure had you chosen a different article to highlight the inequalities in Islam you would have received the answers you were after...
AOG

I've tried several times to get you to explain how the event you linked to demonstrates inequal treatment of women.

I will try again...

How does the story demonstrate inequality?
Just something I should clarify for you AOG.

The majority of answers you have received on this thread aren't actually in support of Islam.

What we are trying to say is that you haven't demonstrated your point about inequality with the link you provided.

You are normally a lot better at this.

You have chosen the wrong story.

Incidentally, the point you make about 'the gay lobby' is interesting, albeit completely wrong.

If I were you, I'd close this discussion down.

You haven't come out of it well...even your normal acolytes have avoided this thread because (I assume) they can see that you've ballsed up quite badly.

Never mind.

Onwards and upwards...you live to fight another day (but hopefully with a better thought out question).

And I have already explained it to you.

Please try and keep up.

I think my thread as served it purpose quite well, as I knew it would when I decided to construct it, some are so predictive.
///.....some are so predictive.///

I certainly was on reading the OP. LoL

However, I suspect you actually meant to type something else.
AOG

Please point me to the post where you have explained why you think the story you linked to demonstrates inequality?

And at the same time, could you explain your bizarre little segue about this mysterious gay lobby who support Islam.

...because that is by some distance, the oddest thing I've read on AB this year.
