SP, No one is using this terrible atrocity to further their own political agenda
youngmafbog is.
He absolutely is.
Whether you agree with his sentiments or not, it's a blatant attempt to turn the narrative away from this horrific...ABSOLUTELY HORRIFIC event, into an attack on those who don't hold the same political views as him.
It's one of the nastiest things I've read on AB in some time.
There are people who have family members who have been slaughtered in Brussels and in England, someone has thought, "Hey, I know...this is the perfect time to have a go at the liberal left."

Lets not bandy words here, Islam should now be classed a banned religion, just as any other organisation which created the same amount of savage terror would be.
Thank you for moving the debate on. How would Islam be banned? I assume that the closure of mosques would be a start, but after that, wouldn't we have to implement a system of monitoring Muslims in case they are practicing Islam behind closed doors?
How would that work?
I'm not going to assume it's workable until I hear your ideas.
I think the biggest problem we would face in a ban on Islam is policing. Would we target religious leaders to ensure they weren't organising prayer meetings behind closed doors?
We didn't do so well preventing terrorist outrages by banned organised units of the IRA in the 70s...so what would we have to do differently now?

Obviously one couldn't completely get rid of Islamic followers, no one can stop anyone from doing anything 'behind closed doors' but they wouldn't be encouraged, and being discovered practising the Islamic religion would be a criminal offence.
If say a far-right group started a similar terror campaign against the state, that group would swiftly be made a banned group, no ifs, no buts, so why not Islam?

Quoting from Svejk's link:
"I'm a supporter of multiculturalism. But there's been a long period of time when we've allowed the concept of multiculturalism to be abused."
As an example, he said that if people were asserting the equality and fair treatment of women that they should not be made to feel "somehow we're being culturally insensitive".
"We have to be clear no one has the right to abrogate those basic human rights."
Isn't there an obvious contradiction between Blair's statement in the first paragraph and his conclusion in the last?

How do the Liberal left wield this power? They have not been near power in this country for 6 years. Germany has had a Conservative Chancelllor for 11 years, the EU is dominated the Conservative Christian Democrats. Our media is heavily biased rightwards, as is the civil service and judiciary. How exactly do the liberal left change things for the worse when they are not in any positions of piwer to do so. And while we are at it, do these liberal lefties have names? Who are they?
I reckon they are figments of you right wingers imaginations when you cannot figure out why your policies do not work.

These are the sort of people we're talking about.

Okay...here's what I think...youngmafbog uses the term 'liberal left' in the same way that others use the term 'PC brigade', 'feminazis' or 'gay lobby'.
It's an all encompassing soundbite that doesn't mean anything. Specifically it means nothing in the context of this story, because the so-called Liberal Left have not been in a position of power which could force local or global policy.
It's daft.

It's rather too simplistic to blame the liberal left. After all, Western Interference in the Middle East, that has at least contributed to making us a target, was led primarily by George Bush and Tony Blair -- Blair, who was to the right of his party to the extent that his name is now the worst insult possible in the Labour Party, and if Bush is "Left" then Farage is presumably somewhere close to Lenin.
And anyway many terrorists are home-grown rather than recent arrivals; a gaping-door policy is certainly more to the left than it is to the right, but successive governments of both colours have done little to nothing about that.
No, it won't do for people on the right to point fingers at the "Liberal left" and consequently wash their hands of any responsibility for this. Not that the blame can be shared between us anyway; even if I were a card-carrying UKIP supporter it would have made exactly no difference whatsoever, and ditto everyone else on this site.

/// Ban Islam......and immediately radicalise many more Muslims who live within our shores. Genius. ///
We banned Nazism during WW2, and although it might have radicalise many Germans who at that time lived within our shores, I can never remember many attacks from them.
They obviously kept their heads down for their own good.

So, there wouldn't be a Muslim Control division of the police - we would have to rely on members of the public reporting Islamic activity?
Perhaps a payment system could be implemented...with a book of stamps where you get a prize for every Muslim you can report?
Actually, that's silly - and could possibly encourage cheating (eg. chucking a copy of the Koran down someone's chimney, then calling the police).
Perhaps a system whereby being a Muslim was an office in the same way that homosexuality was an offence up until the 60s? It wouldn't be an offence to be Muslim...just to practice it?
But how would that counter extremism?
