I've seen a few videos of these 'fascist thugs'. They seem, inexplicably , a bit angry about what happened. (and, possibly, the fact that the city authorities cancelled today's peace march in case it offended the Muslim community) And raised their voices a bit. No surprise the BBC are playing it for all it's worth. Meanwhile, in real news;...

Dressed in black, some masked, making Hitler salutes.
These appear to be the usual football hooligans that the Far Right always attract, so no difference here.
Reminds me of our own home-grown Fascist boneheads.
The Far Right never really changes does it ?........if Oswald Mosley were to come back today, he would feel perfectly at home.

One might think that having Moslem women wandering around the place in the immediate aftermath could be seen as provocative in much the same way that skinheads milling around outside a mosque bombing might be.
Of course those women were displaying solidarity with the departed and not in any way trying to provoke a response.
Obviously.

The salute that mikey gleefully tags the 'Hitler Salute' has been used for centuries, and well before the National Socialists of Germany adopted it. The Assyrians used a clenched fist version of the raised arm to show resistance in the face of violence. The Romans also used the flat palm raised arm salute to hail their Emperors, who also returned the salute to acknowledge the support shown. There are many carvings still in existence, mainly on marble carved tablets and decorations. The salute was also used during the early days of the French revolution, and a very famous painting called the Tennis Court Oath can still be viewed, of the gathering at Versailles in 1789. I also have been known to use the gesture to hail a taxi, and have seen it employed many times at the local bus stops. Mikey if the weather remains poor for a few days, have you thought about a visit to the 'Eden Project' it is lovely and warm in the domes and I am sure you would enjoy it. I have done exactly that when down there in Kernow on a day that is cold or rainy.
Togo....I doubt that the Nazi or Hitler salute was used by this Fascist gang to hail taxis or buses in Brussles !
I have been to Eden quite a few times over the years, but it doesn't look its best at this time of year........in my humble opinion, it is best seen in late May/early June, when it truly wonderful.
But it is not dog friendly, and a visit from me would entail leaving Little Willy alone on the 'van all day.
Anyway, I am enjoying the peace and quiet....I have about 6 crosswords left to finish !

Togo; Re. the salute; Many years ago I travelled across Italy by coach, in which a chap who had a broken arm which had been set in plaster in an elevated position and whom the driver had sat in the front seat beside him, because of the space he needed.
As we travelled through the countryside, elderly ex-fascist farm workers in the fields continually stood and returned his 'salute'!

Khandro....on the way back from an excursion to Monte Casino, from Sorrento
a few years ago, we all had to listen to the tour guide telling us how wonderful Silvio Berlusconi was, and how he was going to save Italy from the horrid Communists !
This was just before the news of the bunga-bunga parties scandal was broken.
