Actually it does - Evans' conviction and subsequent execution was founded in a large part on the evidence of his landlord John Christie, who lied in court under oath, and as a result Evans was convicted and hanged.
Christie later admitted to the murders for which Evans was convicted, and Evans received a posthumous pardon.
Christie was seen as a pillar of the community because he served as a War Reserve police constable, making the notion that he would lie seem so absurd as to be impossible.
In fact, Christie was a convicted felon, but the police failed to check his criminal record before employing him.
