Liitle kids in the back of the car but not in child seats !

retrocop - ////The purpose of a gun is to shoot people - that is what it is designed to do, and death is the intended end result.//

Really. //

I am not sure of the point you are making here - ?

If you take my comment out of context, it looks like the most obvious statement - maybe that is what you are highlighting?

But as always - context is everything.
For someone, along with Mikey, who doesn't probably know his butt from his
business end I imagine you both know very little about firearms and are not in a position to comment on use and types but it gives you both an opportunity to get on your soap boxes after your knees stop jerking.
To state guns are designed for killing people is a daft statement. Guns are also used for hunting food and Range Target practise. Ever heard of the Queen's Cup Bisley,Phoenix Shoot,Trafalgar and Imperial shoots.
People bought and owned firearms of some kind to survive and eat amy years ago.
Just google 'Sporting Guns'. That is what they are designed for. "Field Sports".
You two couldn't differentiate between a Sec 1 or Sec 2 and a smooth or rifled barrel. I am a member of a Home Office approved club and compete regularly against other enthusiasts. We do not go around shooting people with our SPORTING rifles.
You might be interested to know that GPs have to be informed of any patients who own weapons legally and also it is a requirement by firearms holders to disclose to the issuing authority of the certificates.
Carry on in your ignorance and spout rubbish. Cricket bats and Baseball bats are designed solely to hit balls aren't they?. People have never been battered to death with them have they?
Now we have Mikey on another of his hobby horse rants . Thought he would of tired himself after the recent outpourings. I await the 'some daft Americans think the Grand Canyon was built 6000 years ago'.
Retrocop, //You might be interested to know that GPs have to be informed of any patients who own weapons legally//

Is that right? We've never informed our GP that we own guns, and have ever been told by the police that we should.
//More accurately, but entirely against their ethos is - Guns don't kill people, people with guns kill people.//

Nothing accurate about that generalisation either. I am a person with guns and I don't shoot people. I object to the inference that gun owners are running around like mentally unbalanced cretins killing off the population.
*have never*
Interesting article on this subject Naomi.

Mamyalynne, thanks for that. The article is dated November 2013 and says the requirement comes into effect in December 2013 and that the Police will inform the GP. We've just had our licences renewed but the Police haven't asked who our GP is so they can't inform him. Very odd.

At the moment there is a load of legislation that is being discussed about amendments to the Firearms ownership. Purely instigated by Brussels.
The British police had applied to have some outrageous control of many controls of fire arm useage. There exists a large Tomb where amendments to the Firearms act and conditions of use of firearms is freely available. The police wanted to take over all aspects and make changes to current laws but not give general access to licensed shooters. That would of meant that sports/game shooters could easily fall foul ( no pun) of the law unwittingly.
For the last year there has been much lobbying in Brussels regarding serious draconian amendments to type of firearms and ammunition. One such law proposed was that ALL Sec 1 and 2 weapons that may resemble a military firearm will be banned. That could include weapons used by firearms for vermin control /rough shooting etc. My 3 Bolt Action rifles could look like a specialist military weapon but is not a bullpup design or anything like an Armalite, SA 80 etc. More like a SMLE 303. I have been sent loads of ongoing updates on recent debates with regard to firearms from and to Brussels. I will dig some pertinent ones out for you.
We have an excellent Tory MEP (female) who is fighting our corner to have this knee jerk rubbish overturned.
What brought this about? Paris and more recently Brussels.
It may be outdated then sorry for not checking the date Naomi.
Mamyalynne, I didn't mean it was outdated - simply that a requirement implemented almost three years ago hasn't, in our case at least, been actioned by the police.
Thanks Mamyalynne
That certainly is the GP aspect of firearms ownership. There is so much more that most shooters who legally own firearms and enjoy their sport do not know what is disclosed about them.
I was given to understand, recently, by a young serving Police Officer in my club that it is soon to be proposed that vehicles be flagged by the DVLA if the driver is a registered firearm owner.
I see, bureaucracy is indeed complex, though of course essential with such serious matters.

Retro...it may interest you to know that that I spent many a happy day with my Dad at Bisley, back in the 50's.

He was a member of the Johnson Matthey Rifle Shooting Club. He was a keen and rather good .22 shooter.

I can also remember going with him on a Sunday morning, to practise at a shooting gallery at Baker Street Tube Station, in an old abandoned Tube tunnel. Many years later I found this tunnel was used during the war as a training ground for SOE operatives. When we were using it it belonged to the London Transport Shooting Club.

If you google 'West Yorkshire Police Firearms application/renewal' and go to their site you will get a pdf application form for a Sec1 or Shotgun. Bottom of page 1 is the medical declaration etc which must be signed.
retrocop, //That certainly is the GP aspect of firearms ownership.//

Don't you see what I'm saying? Our licences have just been renewed and we haven't been asked to provide the name of our GP so the police can't possibly have passed that information on. Our GP hasn't a clue that we're gun owners.

This site, gives up to date reports of the current EU gun ban debate.

retrocop. well it's certainly there. We're not in West Yorkshire, and I'd assume that all the renewal application forms would be the same, but they can't be. How odd!

When you first applied for a certificate did it ask for your GPs details? I don't know how long you have possessed a section 1 or 2 certificate but my first private firearm certificate (Sec 1),which included handguns. was applied for about 35 years ago and it had a medical requirement to allow GPs knowledge and to submit details of health to the police.
// To state guns are designed for killing people is a daft statement. Guns are also used for hunting food and Range Target practise.//

daft but true - hunting food - luckily I havent had buckshot in my pigeon for fifty years. Guns were not designed for target practice and then someone said " hey everybody if you point it at someone, it will kill them. "

and as for legally held guns are used to kill people
what short memories you gunsters have ! Thomas Hamilton had four legally held firearms which he used to massacre the kids in Dunblane ...

and yes after 99 dead in Paris
I am not surprised that the Great and Good who rule us are thinking up extra legisalation...

and please someone tell me:
The British police had applied to have some outrageous control of many controls of fire arm useage.

what outrageous control of many controls means ?

Tomb where all the amendment lie quietly ( next sentence ) is in fact 'tome'. I worked that one out.

I collect stamps - are there any plans to ... stamp that out ?
o yeah and since it is Fri pm.... did you know the Grand Canyon was created 6000 y ago - I read it on AB earlier on ....have good week end everyone
