This link is part of the minefield we tread through with regard to possession of rifles. If the police got their hands on the tiller a lot of us would unwittingly transgress the law without knowing it because the police would not inform the amendments.

Little things like storage of bolt action rifles. Should a requirement be legally binding to store bolts seperately that info would not be passed on. Likewise attendance at range/club days. Proposal less than three attendances per year firearm cert revoked. The police would not pass that one on either. :-(

Retrocop. //When you first applied for a certificate did it ask for your GPs details? //
I really don't think so - I think that's something that would stick in my memory - but I've had my licence for over ten years so maybe I've forgotten. I know we renewed on-line this time, and received a telephone call from the police to say that renewal had been approved so I'm sure they're doing what they're supposed to be doing.

business end I imagine you both know very little about firearms and are not in a position to comment on use and types but it gives you both an opportunity to get on your soap boxes after your knees stop jerking.
To state guns are designed for killing people is a daft statement. Guns are also used for hunting food and Range Target practise. Ever heard of the Queen's Cup Bisley,Phoenix Shoot,Trafalgar and Imperial shoots.
People bought and owned firearms of some kind to survive and eat amy years ago.
Just google 'Sporting Guns'. That is what they are designed for. "Field Sports".
You two couldn't differentiate between a Sec 1 or Sec 2 and a smooth or rifled barrel. I am a member of a Home Office approved club and compete regularly against other enthusiasts. We do not go around shooting people with our SPORTING rifles.
You might be interested to know that GPs have to be informed of any patients who own weapons legally and also it is a requirement by firearms holders to disclose to the issuing authority of the certificates.
Carry on in your ignorance and spout rubbish. Cricket bats and Baseball bats are designed solely to hit balls aren't they?. People have never been battered to death with them have they?
Now we have Mikey on another of his hobby horse rants . Thought he would of tired himself after the recent outpourings. I await the 'some daft Americans think the Grand Canyon was built 6000 years ago'. //
Leaving aside your petty patronising insults - this debate is about a gun used to kill someone.
I like to assume that people in this debate are intelligent enough to know that the other uses of guns are known, understood, and irrelevant to this discussion, which is why I didn't allow myself to get side-tracked by waffling on about the seriously obvious.
It seems you do feel the need to explain the seriously obvious, and have gone on at tedious length, while adding nothing meaningful to the debate itself whatsoever.
If there is a news item where someone is stabbed with a kitchen knife, I am sure we can call on you to spend yards of space explaining that knives are used in cooking, handicrafts, eating ... and so on ad nauseum.
Or you could assume that we know that, and simply stick to the point we are discussing.
Just a thought.

I would take any post from Mikey about firearms in the U.S. seriously if I honestly believed he wasn't just jumping on his favourite hobby horse time and time and time again just to bash the Americans. He is like the little boy who cries 'Wolf'. His repetition becomes tedious and gives no credence to his alleged genuine concerns about the deaths due to firearm misuse. Just another Mikey rant. Yawn.......

It was you who brought knives into the debate. Please take the time to read the stats in the link.Back in 2008 there were 4 more knife crimes in the UK than firearms. My ex colleagues tell me it is now more.I have no doubt that knives are totally unrestricted in the U.S. and I would put money on it that more people die by knife than gun in the U.S. We have restrictions on purchase and carriage of knives with many prohibitions on ,gravity, lock ,blade length etc etc so please spare us the big bad gun guff because the boyz are out there most days of the week in the UK stabbing people to death.

I agree with Retro when he mentions American bashing. Anti-Americanism seems to appear quite a few times on here. I come across many Americans in my area who are working or on vacation or even playing in bands. I have yet to meet a loud-mouthed; ignorant of the World; we rule the World; know-it-all-American who deserves to be bashed.
I took the trouble to access retro's link.
//Back in 2008 there were 4 more knife crimes in the UK than firearms.// ret
point arises - well first it doesnt make sense
but it could be
"Back in 2008 there were 4 times more knife crimes in the UK than firearms"
which strikes me as too small - I would have thought many times more knife crimes than crimes with firearms
and in fact the article says:
"There are four times more knife-related killings as firearms-related killings."
and as someone was wondering idly what the comparable stats for the land of the free was - they are here
http:// www.inf oplease .com/ip a/A0004 888.htm l
1500 12000 - so 8 times knife deaths is the number of firearm deaths
as the president of east germany once sai
you should only believe stats if you have had a chance to manipulate them yourself ....
