In the US schools have been warned to not discriminate against transgender kids using the loo of their choice:

How would you feel about this approach being taken in the UK, in UK schools?

well there are apparently 25+ "genders" so we need to do something or start building more kazis!

Should the same thinking apply to gym/swimming pool changing rooms where there is no chance of preserving the privacy of all by using cubicles?
On the contrary. Kids are kids, you can't hold them to the same level of behaviour as adults. It won't work. Besides it's just common sense not to to advertise one is different and thus potential bully fodder.
Oh, and the affected kids don't need saving from themselves. We all know how we feel as we go through life. How we feel is our own private matter and we all deal with it. If we decide to reveal something personal to others that is our choice and we take any advantages and disadvantages that go with it, because we are responsible for making that choice.
sp, //transgender people have enough to deal with, without being messed with when they want to go for a pee.//

Why would going for a pee in a toilet assigned to their physical gender mess them up? They have the same ‘bits’ as all the other users and so unless, in the process of having a pee, they feel compelled to bare their souls, I don’t see how it can affect them. And how about the other children? Isn’t there a danger that sharing a toilet with someone of the opposite physical gender might mess them up, or doesn't that matter?
//Isn’t there a danger that sharing a toilet with someone of the opposite physical gender might mess them up, or doesn't that matter? //

Exactly, pandering to the minority at the expense of the majority.
More right on PC pandering
Kids will be kids, if this type of thing caught on, what is stopping none transgender lads from dodging in and out of the girl's toilets just for a laugh?

Like I said, Naomi, it's about respecting the identity and the right to be transgender in public, or not. Or did you overlook that?

If you tell someone they have to go the gents', then it follows that you see them as a gent. So either we rebrand the toilets by sexual organs, or we match toilet use to gender identity, or we reform the way in which public toilets are organised (and, for that matter, as shoota suggested, public changing room facilities).

It is a big issue to feel accepted by society for some people, and shouldn't be dismissed out of hand as pandering, or for any other reason.
Incidentally, the answer to AOG's question is the same as before: people who try to abuse the system will be weeded out easily enough. Particularly at school, the only way to try and maintain the lie that led boys to enter girls' toilets would be for them to live as a girl in daily life. Good luck to anyone who wants to try that when it isn't actually how they feel. Maintaining a deception on that scale is very difficult, and very damaging.

Which, incidentally, is why the idea of asking people to maintain the reverse deception in order to avoid bullying is just as damaging.
If everyone were naturist then the issue wouldn't arise. Everyone just piles into one - no problem.
The article is wider than restrooms/toilets - but when this topic arises it it that issue that dominates discussion.

Respect for others is the key issue.
Oh, for goodness sake!
How many more “differences” are we supposed to pander to?

How about this - I always felt like I should have 4 legs, a tail, and say “woof”, so I should be allowed to cock my leg against a tree, and poop on the grass!
Naw, wouldn't work. One gender would forever be moaning at the other for not putting the seat back out again after they'd had to put it away previously, it being left out. Plus further moaning about missed aim and wet floor/seats :-)
I have and idea, instead of Ladies and gents or boys and girls, or bucks and does or vicars and tarts we have XX and XY. voila!
or possibly, simply: "Le Kazi"!
Jim, //the idea of asking people to maintain the reverse deception//

It’s not deception. Regardless of your mental attitude, you have bloke's bits and therefore physically you are a bloke. You demand respect for your sensitivities - in fact you want everyone else to accommodate them - but you're not willing to extend that respect to others by considering their sensitivities. If peeing is such an unimportant matter, as was suggested as a reason to allow men to use women's toilets, why make such a fuss over it? Just go to the bloke’s toilet where all your bits match every other users - and pee!
The ramifications of a (physical) girl wandering in to a boys loo full of a gang of leery lads is too horrible to contemplate.
Imagine the fallout if she were assaulted or worse...
Or a gang of leery lads wandering into a girls' loo....
what about a bunch of leary loos wandering into a girls lad?

All it takes is for the 'naughty' boys to say "I'm transgender Miss/Sir", who would dare disbelieve them?
