Is The ‘Remain’ Campaign Influencing Anyone?

David Cameron leads the ‘Remainers’ and so, as Prime Minister, gets his voice heard in the media every single day, but how many placards have you seen urging people to vote ‘Remain’?

Here, where I live, I’ve seen none at all. Plenty of ‘Leave’ posters, many of them erected in farmers’ fields alongside main roads, but not one for ‘Remain’. Strange.

Here in NI, it seems to me that the leave or remain vote is divided along sectarian lines (no surprise there) with Unionist politicians like Arlene Foster, the first minister, urging her followers to vote leave. However, the unionists are a bit unnerved, I think, because Nationalist politician and deputy first minister Martin McGuinness has called for a "Border Poll" if The UK votes to leave the EU, in order words a referendum on whether Northern Ireland should remain as part of the UK, or leave and join the South of Ireland in a united Ireland. So the unionists here are between a rock and a hard place, and the issue amongst Northern Irish voters may now be less about whether UK should remain in Europe, and more about whether Northern Ireland should leave the UK.

Yes, I have seen plenty of 'Leave poster' here in Northern Ireland, but I have also seen quite a few "Remain" posters too.

Since I last read posts on Brexit last week, the number of people that I know who have mentioned it and want to remain in the EU, has doubled ... there are now 2 of them !

Walked through town on Friday and saw neither "Leave" nor "Remain" posters and was not approached by anyone from either side.
Just as a point of interest; The bookies are going 11/10 for a "Remain" vote with over 65% turnout. 2/1 for a "Remain" vote and under 65% turnout. And for an "Exit" they go 9/2 with either over or under the 65%. So anyone thinking of taking the general 2/1 for an exit, get yourselves of to Ladbrokes and do the 'turnout/result double' and fill your boots:-)

I haven't seen any posters relating to either side either only a few leaflets through the door.

It would seem that many areas are content to let the debate be fought through the media.

I caught a bit on the Peston Show yesterday and saw an interesting chart about the number of media appearances given and Cameron was well ahead with over 500. Johnson was well up there too and Corbyn just 50+.

Another fact was that in these final few weeks historically, there is usually a spike to the status quo (16% in one case).

Quite an enigma that so many people know so few, if any, voters in the 'Remain' camp that you would think this is much easier to call.

The frenetic media appearances strangely is not matched by local campaigning.

In my local shopping centre they had two trestle tables and a dozen people for leave and a cardboard box and a pile of booklets for remain. I think there might have been one remain bloke about having a cup of tea somewhere though lol

People tend not to get excited about the status quo, which staying is. Those protesting against the EU are more bound to put up a poster, than those who shrug their shoulders and think staying is OK.

Where I live, I see far more UkIP posters at election time than Labour ones. But Labour always wins.

Saying that, thRemain campaign has been very poor, and I will not be surprised if Brexit wins.

The LEAVE posters that I have seen, appear to be cut out of newspapers. Mail or Express sheep probably.

From my friends, they seem divided by educational lines. Most of the Leavers had no further education after school. Of those with an higher education, most are Stayers, (most of those are business people).

A hundred, Jackdaw? Despite the fact that you've yet to meet anyone who wants to remain, a hundred is all you're prepared to risk! I'd be raiding the grandkid's piggy banks and looking down every chair and settee i could to raise as much as possible. That's if, of course, i was as certain of the outcome as some on these pages appear to be:-/

A couple of weeks ago a man in our local said he would be voting Remain, he was then treated to a sustained personal attack which almost became physical. Maybe that's your reason, the silent will speak on 23rd, remember the last General election. The winner isn't necessarily he who shouts loudest, there are no remain placards here, Norfolk, a lot of leave.

I'm not very far from Waterboatman (about 10 miles inland) and can confirm that 'Leave' posters are plentiful. One chap in our village (very left-wing, goes on about politics and bores people) has a c.6" x 4" 'poster' in his window that says 'Labour says IN' and that's all I've seen. Otherwise, one lady is very upset and asks why people are always wanting to change things so is having to be told that there isn't a vote for the status quo. Others have mainly made-up their minds or are involved in earnest discussions.
