Postal votes again. They should not be allowed wholesale in any election.

// The Villach branch of The Freedom Party lodged a complaint with the country’s corruption prosecutor over the Carinthia council counting votes on Sunday and not Monday like in the rest of the country.
Hofer himself urged his supporters to accept the defeat, saying there were no signs of electoral fraud. //
It appears that mishandling is a technicality rather than fraud. The votes were not misallocated or tampered with, merely they weren't counted at the correct time.
But a rerun is the correct verdict.

Postal voting should be for special circumstances only: armed forces overseas, people who will be out of the country for business or holiday on the day of the election.
As Nigel Farage observed on the day of the infamous Oldham by-election, postal votes were being delivered in box-loads.

YMB....there is some truth in what you say but if the Austrian people vote in the Freedom Party it can only be their own fault.
I was watching Ch 4 News last night, and Geert Wilders of the Dutch Freedom Party was being interviewed.
When ogres like this can be on the cusp of being voted into power, its no use blaming Junker. Both these countries have a history of ultra-right-wing politics and they ought to know better.
Has history taught them nothing ?

It seems that claiming someone as being "far right" is in itself sufficient to dismiss them, without having made any attempt to listen to what they have to say, a very fashionable and intellectually lazy approach to politics.

Hofer claims to be 'centre right' and has addressed his countries immigration problems of which they have many, see my link above.

There you go again with your insults, one can go on trial for insulting people, It would seem by some that we should all be shaking in our shoes if a Far-right group gets in power, but strangely nothing is said regarding Far-Left groups.
*** The trial of Geert Wilders, a member of the House of Representatives of the Netherlands, took place in the Netherlands in 2010 and 2011. Wilders was accused of criminally insulting religious and ethnic groups and inciting hatred and discrimination. He was found not guilty in June 2011. ***

AOG, that's why I said "wholesale", there are legit reasons for postal votes, blue badge holders certainly, but those that can vote in person should should not be allowed a postal vote.
Mikey:"A Far Right Leader might be in charge of Austria after all ? ...completely unbelievable ! " - if that is what their electorate vote for then why is that "unbelievable"? - is this the standard, those who do not agree with me must be thick, argument?
