Whether or not one agrees with this, the woman should have known the law, just as a bikini wearing Western woman should know an Islamic country's laws.

People are forgetting that the situation is tense in the south of France, France gnerally in fact. Only a few weeks ago a murderer with possible Islamist motives drove a lorry through a crowd of people in Nice. I don't blame the authorities for wanting to minimise overt displays of affiliation to Islam in a French seaside resort at the current time. The...

As I said earlier, I can understand increasing fears and the need to feel in control in your own country and your beaches, but this type of law enforcement ends up looking wrong and silly and diverts attention away from more pressing matters.

//Have a go at the question I asked//
No point Micky, you are so set in your ways you would never accept it. If you really cannot see what is happening in the West at the moment you may be in for a surprise.
As I said mikey, French people obviously don't want constant reminders of Islam on their streets, beaches or anywhere else. In case you didn't realise, France is WESTERN country, the South especially renowned for its relaxed attitude to clothing on certain beaches!
Anyone flouting the ban in said region is idiotic in the extreme and in all honesty the Gendarmes are in all probability ensuring this stupid woman's safety as well as enforcing the law.
Again, for the hard of understanding: Given what has happened in France in the name of Islam over the last 2 years, particularly recent events in Nice the French don't want garments that remind them of an oppressive religion on full public display on their Southern beaches.
Motley...off topic !

If you can't or won't answer my question, then so be it.
Islay, //seriously Naomi either you have shares in wetsuits or the records broken!//

Neither, but unless these ladies are determined to show the world that they’re Muslim, why do they insist upon wearing this particular garment? What’s wrong with an insignificant wetsuit - seriously? An answer would be appreciated.

This ban isn’t about telling women what or what not to wear – it’s about efforts to encourage integration and social cohesion – something that Muslim communities throughout Europe have a problem with - and defence of this garment does nothing whatsoever to attempt to remedy that. Quite the reverse in fact.
I did answer your question
//you are so set in your ways you would never accept it.//
Mikey, //But can anybody please explain why the wearing of a Burkini on a beach in Nice makes other, non-Muslim beach users less safe ?//

If that’s the question you want answered, I’ll answer it. It isn’t about making beach users feel safe. See my post at 14:47.
Nice one Naomi, I can't be bothered with him, he's so blinkered.
Chilli...There are lots of things I don't like the look of.

I don't like the look of aggressive tattoos,or body piercing, especially when it comes to the face. I don't like racists and I loath smoking ! I hate loud pop music being played when its audible to everybody else on my housing estate.

But to try and pretend that all of those things don't exist, by removing from the eye makes no sense at all, and any law would be unenforceable.

France has a large Muslim population and driving them all off the streets isn't going to achieve anything.....its a knee-jerk reaction of the worst kind.
Mikey, you said your question was open to anyone to answer so I answered it. Clearly the truth, like the messenger, is not to your taste. ;o)

THEMOTLEY1, well-meaning people in blinkers can't see past the ends of their noses - and I've no doubt that all that the defenders here are well-meaning.

not 'that all' - 'at all'.

But none of those are a symbol of a religion that has led to the recent events in France, one which resulted in 86 deaths and 307 injured right next to a beach in Nice.

Is it slowly sinking in? As ever, you appear to have a 'flash to bang' time on this one that is longer than usual for you!
This is the Fatima Manji argument all over again, except this time it's in France.

Luckily for us we don't live in France, we live in a civilised country ...

> What’s wrong with an insignificant wetsuit - seriously?

1) Comfort
2) Price
3) Availability
4) and most importantly, Choice i.e. the exercising of free will

> encourage integration and social cohesion

Great sentiment, but I don't see how this photo encourages it:

There you have a Muslim woman, on the beach ... an unusual sight, her attempt at social cohesion maybe? Surrounded by police, and for what?
'4) and most importantly, Choice i.e. the exercising of free will'

Muslim women. Free will? Spot the basic mistake.
OK, your basic mistake is that you want to take it away from her.
Eh? where did i say that?
Ellipsis...."Surrounded by police, and for what?"

To assuage the prejudices of some people.
^ clutching at straws now.
Surrounded by police, and for what?
-----------------
Possibly her own safety for flouting(in a region that recently witnessed horror on an unimaginable scale in the name of Islam) a well-publicised recent law where local tensions are high?
4) Zacs beat me to it......
