we are allowed in law to discuss the evidence presented today ( NOT contempt of court, AG v BBC ex p GMC ) and the systems were chaos by agreement between the NMC and the defence lawyers
so many presented to the screeening prog tha it was overwhelmed
In McCafferty's group theywere given thermometers and invited to record the temps themselves.
oo-er pretty chaotic
Her temp in evidence was 38'C and recorded as 37'2
oo-er again
Both sides have agreed that the charge of dishonesty should be abandoned - (dishonestly recording her temp)
so whadda they arguing about ?
two days have been set aside for the case ( cost £10 000 a day or thereabouts ) - and you know at close of play at the end of the first day it looks as tho acquittal is on the cards !
I thought also she had rung up Edinburry cas and said I think I have ebola
and the triage nurse had said " yeh OK hop on a bus and we'll have a look, yeah ? "
ans she went like no no I am serious
and the nurse went again - "yeh hop on de bus yeah we'll look OK wodger want den an ambulance yeah my arriss" ( sort of uninterested chav sarf ov de thames accent)

divebuddy - //^^^^ Harold Shipman did plenty of good work before he crossed to the dark side. // What in the name of sanity has Harold Shipman got to do with this???
He was an egotistical psychopath with a God complex who deliberately murdered dozens of his patients. How on earth you think there is a connection to this woman and her circumstances is inconceivable.

A sensible verdict

Pity it cost over £100,000 for common sense to prevail!

// douglas - //Nurse Cafferkey has many things stacked against her, not least being British and white, marking her out for the full force of officialdom to come down on her. //
good one but quite wrong
the GMC were agonising in a suitably socialist equalist fashion over twenty as no matter how they twisted the stats - foreign doctors Asian and Eastern Europeans were up in the first division of the accused and the verdicts were more often guilty. [ for naughty naughty behaviour ]
At present I think you can show that the british indians who are medical grads of UK med schools have the same strike off rate as white anglo UK grads
this is a standard paper - of thousands

this one looks at the immigrants exam PLAB and whether they pass post grad english exams at the same rate as UK homegrown. After 20y it is now acceptable to say no they dont - that paper looks at exam rate pass and not naughty naughty behaviour ....

None of this would be necessary if they had been sensible in the first place and made it a rule that anyone , no matter what the circumstances, returning from close contact with such an infectious disease was put into compulsory quarantine on return / entry to the UK. I said the same thing on the post that we had the first time this subject was mentioned several months back.
Just reflecting anne. Easy to condemn. But I wonder what all the execution squad would have done in her position, and knowledge of conditions in Africa. Stayed there to let their body bleed and fester from every orifice including eye sockets, or scrambled for home, and the best care available. How brave would you need to be?
