Lol..

It is quite insulting though.
I was a little surprised to see it in one of the crosswords at the weekend.

I couldn't get too upset about it, but then I'm not from Essex.
My best friend lives in Essex. When I have been with her and people have asked where she lives and she has told them, I`ve lost count of the amount of times the response is "So you`re an Essex girl" which I think is quite rude and must be tiresome.

If I had a quid for every time I've been called sheep shagger, I'd have had enough money to buy my own flock!

Whilst programmes like TOWIE continue to be made the stereotype will never go away.
lol
Chilldoubt, do I take it you live west of the Severn Bridge?

based on what I've seen recently on walking around Cardiff at night, girls from Llandaff, Penarth or Pontypridd are more "Essex" than girls from Chigwell.....

Best laugh of the day.
err I don't understand, Essex Girl is 2 words.
"Essex" is a word, "Girl" is a word, but "Essex Girl" is a compound noun that has a meaning that differs from each of the others. Hence, the definition appears in the dictionary, just as (for example) "Old English" has a definition separately from "Old" and English".
