It seems that Nissan at least have not succumbed to project fear.

What a dour bunch of pessimists we have here. I’m convinced that rather than encourage thriving industry, and hence jobs, some would rather see business go down the tubes just so they can say ‘We told you so’. Miserable lot!

// thanks to government "support and assurances". //

We've given them a huge bribe to stay.
Or they have 'assured, Nissan that our strategy is to stay in the Single Market*.

* Single Market = paying the same EU membership fee and agreeing to ALL the EUs rules, but losing ALL power to change policy or even vote on it.
Surely, Gromit, you're not suggesting a return of the "slush fund" days!

so neither of you are happy that a major manufacturer is continuing here. Right oh!
Ha ha!

You attack what I haven't said because you have no defence against what I did say.
The same applies to the response to my contribution!
Question Author
the deal they've done is to insulate them from any tarriff that the EU may impose gromit. That is assuming we do some sort of deal with the EU.

I'd have thought that you two would be delighted that the government has taken steps to ensure 7000 jobs. Rather than overdosing on sour grapes.
Am I right in thinking there was some incentive ££££££££ involved here by the Government?
How much is it going to cost the taxpayer? Nissan threaten to leave the UK so the government rolls over and bribes them to stay. Win win for Nissan.
This thread goes on for several pages, like this....

Nissan are staying: Hurrah!
Because we have promised the soft Brexit: Boo!

We no longer have to pay the EU: Hurrah!
But we have to pay to be in the Single Market: Boo!

We no longer have to obey EU rules on illegal state subsidies: Hurrah!
So we can happily give Nissan Micra loads of cash: Boo!

they did a deal, I'd rather bribe nissan than give the EU 14bn a year to shaft us.

How many other companies are going to be bribed to stay?
^^^^

Depends , how much is left in the 14 Billion pot , after Nissan have taken their snout out
When does an agreement become a bribe? When it doesn’t suit your agenda?
Naomi, although I do not agree with what this Government has done, do you not think this has opened the floodgates? BMW / Ford / and many other company's.
Will the Nissan bribe mean we won't have £350million a week to spend on the NHS, after all?
TWR, what's new? You never agree with anything a Conservative government does. You'd be moaning more if they turned Nissan away.
Gromit, scraping the barrel. Cheer up! Think of all those lovely jobs!! Or would you rather not? :o)
