I never listened to him but the memory of his voice brings back nice memories of my Mum bustling about in the kitchen while she listened to the radio when I was a child.
Sleep well Jim.
'Kiss of Fire', that was my favourite.

RIP Sir Jimmy.

Jeremy Vine show at midday today is being dedicated to Jimmy Young.
maggiebee - Obviously Mr Vine has more grace and manners and respect for Jimmy Young than Jimmy Young ever had for him.
Ooh, Andy-Hughes. What did Jimmy say about Jeremy?
Cloverjo - for the remainder of the time that Jimmy Young was employed by the BBC - I think he had a weekend discussion programme for a while - he refused either to speak to, or to acknowledge Jeremy Vine on the occasions that the two men met in Broadcasting House.

A nasty small-minded attitude to someone who had no part in Young's removal, and as I said, obviously Mr Vine is the bigger man here.
AH

If you have nothing good to say about the late Sir Jimmy, leave it to others to convey their good thoughts and wishes at such a sad time like this.
I remember the vitriol, was well documented at the time..don't shoot the messenger (Andy) !!
AOG - simply because someone who neither of us knows personally dies, does not mean that their bad manners and discourtesy dies with them.

I am entitled to express my views on Sir Jimmy, and I have done so.

I found him unentertaining as a broadcaster, and unedifying as an individual, and I have said so.

You are entitled to a different view - but let's not confer pseudo-sainthood on someone just because he was once a radio host.
AH, nothing good coming out of you today, I think you need a dose of happy pills!

Absolutely, but in my opinion, at this moment, your comments lack decorum and are in bad taste.

Your first posting was creditable but you over stepped the mark with your second post.
Me, me, me. Again.
ouch Andy....facts are facts but a wee bit on disrespectful side with the personal comments...he was a legend..loved by many..irrespective of personal opinions..an old fashioned traditional star has passed which has to be sad...

There is a time and place for almost anything but this isn't one of them.

This is almost like Answerbank's version of a wake for Sir Jimmy and wakes are not the place to express bad feelings towards the dearly departed.

this may be an AB wake but it is also an AB obituary, and it is proper that all sort of things done by the deceased, good and bad, can be remembered; it's not as though there's anywhere else to do it.
I stand by what I said.

If anyone knew Sir Jimmy personally, and posts that they are upset by what I have said, then I am happy to offer an apology.

Otherwise, he was a public figure, and anyone and everyone is entitled to offer an observation about his passing.

This is not the 'Obituary' section, nor is it the 'Let's be nice because someone is dead ...' section, it's the News Section.

A separate thread perhaps?

Fair enough, then what is good for the goose is good for the gander and if the same reasoning applied to an ABer on his/her death, would the same reasoning apply?

I don't think so.
Jimmy Young stops breathing is news R.I.P. The rest is history.
