Sometimes all sorts of labels are given like 'legend' or 'hero' for example. It can be misleading and inappropriate.
Most people did not ever meet Sir Jimmy and so are relying on their impressions of hearing him on the radio. Fair enough but that should not be to the exclusion of facts as given by Andy which are a matter of public record.
Is it sufficient and correct that we should accept the selective spoon-fed tributes as being the only informed way of judging character?

Thank you again ag.
I stand by the observations I made.
I made them - not because I have anything against Sir Jimmy - he is a matter of supreme indifference to me although I regret his passing as I regret the passing of anyone who gave pleasure to others - but simply as information about his behaviour at a critical time in his career.
My observation was prompted by the information which I in turn received - that Jeremy Vine was dedicating his show today to the memory of Sir Jimmy - which as I said, shows him to be the bigger man, and able to look past his own personal ill-treatment to the fact that millions of listeners would wish for the passing to be marked appropriately.
It seems some equate my information with a reaction befitting me having spat in church - but that says more about them than me.

// I must admit that some of the stuff I discussed with him formed the basis of topics in his show in subsequent months. I well and truly had my brain picked that day.// prof

I can think of at least one professor I wouldnt dream of quoting
( we thought he made his results up )
no three or four jostle for first place on my "never quote" list
no six or seven spring to mind

Perhaps it would have been better to have applied the same sort of respect to your comments?
If the one person that the late Jimmy Young was said to be vindictive towards can be respectful enough not to publicly voice his negative feelings towards the deceased entertainer, then surely you could have done the same on a thread sadly announcing his death?

Mary I Tudor - very religious and loved bonfires. Spent alot of time being pregnant without issue ....
Charles I - lost his head over parliamentary reform
Charles II - Pepys wrote of him: everyone knows the King has a large - - - - ( membrum virile written in the days that salacious details were foot noted in Latin ) - and THAT I dont think made it to his epitaph !

Jeremy Vine is a BBC presenter who took over the show that Jimmy Young presented.
I am an anonymous comentaotr on a social media website.
Jeremy Vine is honour bound to be respectful - I am not - but I still was.
Please take the time to read back through any and all the posts I have written on this thread, and advise me at which point(s) you think I have been disrespectful - since this seems to be such an issue to you.

AOG - in fact, let me save you the time - here are my original posts -
//Sad to see a broadcasting legend pass away.
He was notable for the time when a number of the great and good were asked to comment on an interview with Margaret Thatcher, and many did, even though she had not appeared on the day in question!
My uncle worked in BBC Radio and said that Sir Jimmy lived on his nerves, perpetually terrified of being replaced, and of course, he eventually was, leaving with what some would say was bad grace in his final comments on air. Sir Jimmy rudely refused to acknowledge his replacement Jeremy Vine at any time he was in the building, until he left the BBC altogether.
My memory of his radio show was how, towards the end of it, he slid into a pattern of speech unheard of in any other human being speaking any language, his whoops and drops and coded language becoming increasingly barmy as time went on.
That particular mantle was passed on to Terry Wogan who extended it further still as he entered his last years, and how it seems to have passed to Lisa Tarbuck who is also inventing vocal pyrotechnics unheard of outside the dressing room of an actor warming up to play King Lear.
But still, not a time to carp, he was loved and will be missed by millions.
R.I.P. Sir Jimmy. //
// maggiebee - Obviously Mr Vine has more grace and manners and respect for Jimmy Young than Jimmy Young ever had for him. //
// Cloverjo - for the remainder of the time that Jimmy Young was employed by the BBC - I think he had a weekend discussion programme for a while - he refused either to speak to, or to acknowledge Jeremy Vine on the occasions that the two men met in Broadcasting House.
A nasty small-minded attitude to someone who had no part in Young's removal, and as I said, obviously Mr Vine is the bigger man here. //
My original post does finish with an 'R.I.P.' message, and the comment that it is not the time to be negative about someone who has died.
The remaining posts are in response to questions, and the rest of my contribution to the thread is defending myself from the hail of angst and criticism - which I have no problem with at all.
But let's be sure we know what we are talking about in terms of what I really said, and not the wilful misinterpretation you and others have chosen to add in.
