What beats me is why the PM decided to appeal anyway, it was always a certainty what the result would be.
As the BBC has just pointed out all this has done is waste 82 days
( and £100,000's ) that could have been used for the parliamentary debate. This could all be over now and A50 triggered, if May had just done what the original court ruling told her!
This further reinforces my contention that our PM is either incompetent or has been intentionally 'set up to fail' at getting A50 through parliment.
Fair? no idea without reading it. should be posted here later
https://www.judiciary.gov.uk/judgments/

the enabling bill likely to start life as a one-liner, however all the opposition parties are lining up with their blizzard of amendments, that will probably keep parliament busy for the next few years.
8-3 against democracy you mean.
you should learn how amendments work mushroom.
A50 will be invoked by end of March as the PM said.
you not happy with parliament, TTT? Magna Carta must have been a big setback to you.
If Corbyn and his party decide to table a string of amendments in order to delay Brexit, then Theresa May hould call an early election so that the electorate can reaffirm the result of the referendum.
It amused me to hear Paul Nuttall complain about the "farce" of a legal proceeding. I shudder to think what sort of country (aside from one without an NHS) UKIP would ever preside over.

As the government spokesman said in accepting this decision, we are fortunate to live in a country where even the government is subject to the law.. We should not take that for granted.
the people elect parliament, the people voted for brexit, the people are supreme here not parliament. Parliament should not be able to thwart that.
again danny, like mushroom I suggest you read how amendments work.
Everyone is subject to the law
what is that little bit of genius supposed to mean?
danny, May can't just call an election any time she feels like it. She needs two thirds of parliament to agree.

Or she could simply declare a motion of no confidence in her own government.
DannyK; "Theresa May hould call an early election so that the electorate can reaffirm the result of the referendum. " how would a general election affirm the result? brexit was cross party.
TTT are you saying that tabling a raft of amendments will not delay the triggering of Article 50?
The real problme will be not the law but how Parliament goes.

If parliament votes against the will of the people it is against democracy. i think that will be a bad thing and indeed could even wipe labour out and may even clobber the Tories.

TM needs to put it to a vote ASAP. If the vote fails or is bogged down with labour and pro-EU 'riders' then name those refusing to vote for the will of the majority and hold an election. Let them explain at the doorstep of their constituencies why they voted the way they did.

TTT I am pretty sure that an election would give the Conservatives a larger majority.
"Or she could simply declare a motion of no confidence in her own government. "

Yes, and lose. That would be quite spectacular and somehow fitting :-)
As for the ruling, with so many pro eu judges it was hardly likely to fall any other way. Still it had to be done since we cannot get further down the line and discover 'problems' and blockers from the undemocratic Bremoaners.
TTT 'A 50 will be triggered by the end of March as the Prime Minister said'
The reports all say things like ' should' or 'could' still be triggered by the end of March those small extra words have a huge significance!
I can't see this getting past parliment without at least 6 months to a year of debate and amendment!
