It is his MO Andy .
It's a Sisyphean task, andy - just give up and have a lemonade.
Baroness Warsi, a Tory Peer, has just came down in favour of rescinding the invitation to Trump, so its not just a few "lefties"

The petition has now nearly 1 million signatures.
Her Majesty is not interested in politics ..as head of state....and it is tradition and good grace as well as seemly to extend an invitation to a new president...
Unfortunately Murray the liberal elite ant to turn the Queen into a policatl puppet.

The POTUS has been invited. Surely the best thing to do if you feel strongly is discuss with him not try to silence him with no doubt viloent protect marches?
Her Maj will ALWAYS heed tradition !
why wouild anyone not welcome a visit from a US president ?

let alone 954 000 ?

well - like Britvic - the people have voted and as you so often say 3T
we must respect the will of the people like it or not .....
Minty.....you are right of course. The visit will be from one Head of State to another. But the situation might change in the next few months, depending on what he gets up to.

How awful would someone have to be, NOT to be invited ?

I mentioned this before but when the Head of State for Roumania visited Britain, in 1978, the Ceausescu's were some of the worse dictators Europe had seen since 1945. If someone like that was around today, I would hope that any invitation to have tea with Betty would be considered very carefully.

There is a persistent story that Betty hid behind a bush, in Buck House Gardens, rather than have to talk to the Ceausescu's !
YMB....I very much doubt if Betty will be having any serious conversation with Trump, over the cucumber sandwiches !
will be interesting to see his choice of gift ?

we also gave him a state black labby didnt we ?

the ceausescus and the dog were all shot later ......
yeah didnt we ban someone and then let him in ?

I refer to the leader of the free - Mugabe....
This reminds me of what may be a apocryphal story, but it is rumoured Nancy Reagan congratulated Betty "about what a nice place you have here" when being shown around Buck House !

Shudder !
For what it is worth (very little) I don't think the state visit should be cancelled - and certainly not the visit. I would not like to speculate on what might happen between now and then though to make us think again.
it will have to be debated in Parliament now of course, which will be interesting...
I think it's important that we don't lose our heads, even if Trump is losing his.
If this visit is to go ahead, and I think that its inevitable that it will, then we should use our right of protest, and let Trump know that we are not all toadys.

In the words of the magnificently named Amanda Sizzle on FB:
(Tho I disagree with the "shouldn't be voting" bit)
"You ask what do we think. I think anybody who thinks that this is the "same thing Trump said in 2016" is a complete idiot and shouldn't be voting. If you can't figure out the major differences then we have a problem. Notice how he consistently kept repeating ILLEGAL aliens, and never once mentions a certain demographic and then tied terrible labels to that one demographic. I.E. rapists and murders. This is why a president needs tact. You can be politically incorrect without being a ***. People keep saying "who cares if he doesn't know how to give speeches properly, are you voting because he speaks well or because of what he's going to do?" Well, this is a PERFECT example of why being publicly respectable and choosing your words wisely is a big component to the presidency, because as you see in this video, the core of the speeches were generally the same but one got a standing ovation and the other *** off millions of people. Part of being the president is inspiring people, and if you can't even choose your words as to not deter listeners, so that your message is still received, how are you going to inspire the majority? Of course Trump's speech inspired some, but notice how they are the ones that are just as callous and small minded as well. His tactlessness didn't phase them. Trump might actually have a real chance if he just got this one thing down. More people could listen to what his plans are but they can't even get past his idiocy. Ultimately when you're running for presidency, you have to be a great salesperson. Somebody could be trying to sell you the greatest product there is but if you can't get past the terrible pitch, how are you going to be able to believe in the product?"
