One has to empathise with them, the thought of a long missing daughter and now this, what can only be guessed an enormous legal bill to face?
Should they appeal?

At least that way, she has had some sort of life.
Whenever we went away when our four children were small, and went anywhere, with or without family and friends for a meal or function, we always took the kids, and when they got tired either put them in their pushchairs to sleep, or if slightly older, got two or three chairs together or a couch in the restaurant/club and let them sleep near us...we never once left them alone in a hotel apartment a fair distance away from us....Just in case of this scenario and emergencies, such as coughing, choking etc....So many things can happen if you're not immediately near them.
So as parents, can't really understand why they left them alone and so vulnerable.
It is a parent's ultimate nightmare, but I feel it could have easily been avoided, had a bit of thought for the children, and not their enjoyment of the meal with their friends, been paramount.

I don't know, ummmm.......Just leaving them alone, without a babysitter even, leaves them so vulnerable and in potential danger......we always saw where the children were sleeping, when out still, if just tuckered out, and carried them up to bed when finished.
Think you would have worried about yours too.

I have not read any of the threads here, but my stance remains the same...any couple who could leave 3 young children unattended in a foreign resort in an unlocked flat for even 10 mins is criminally responsible and had they not been a prfessional middle class couple the book would have been thrown at them and the other kids taken into care.they ARE culpable...they live with the guilt as they SHOULD..they are NOT an innocent party..they empowered the disappearance of their daughter because they neglected their children that fateful night..pure and simple...do NOT excuse their lack of parental responsibility, had they been with their very young children, as they ought to have been...THIS WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED
I totally agree with your comments, Minty x
I can't put my finger on it, but since it happened, there is something that is not quite right....when I go over it in my head, it's feasible, yet unbelievable.
And.....
Why didn't the abducters take the other two children too? ...... loads of questions,no answers.

I used to tell my mate that he would eventually regret leaving his van open when he was working at the other side of a house.
'You worry too much'
Well all the times he left the van open meant nothing when the van was nicked, he was gutted.
The McCanns ... who may have got away with leaving the kids in a unlocked room on numerous occasions whilst they partied away with friends but in the end they paid the ultimate price.
Of course the other unthinkable option is and will always be a possibility unless Madeline turns up.
