no referendum necessary if you ask me, chop the heads of those Turkeys right now. Replace with an elected upper house of 100, like the US. Bunch of over privileged scroungers.

As a traditionalist who rather likes the monarchy I am sad to say I whole heartedly agree that the House of Largesse must be abolished and replaced with an elected upper house.

Are they so blind that they think they can do this and there not be consequence? Do they honestly think there will be cake and expenses as usual for ever more?

I have already signed the e-petition. I think it will get a few more votes at this rate.

The stupidity is unbelievable, if the government were to concede to this, it would mean the weakening of the UK's hand in negotiating a deal, Brussels would be confident that residents within the UK were safe to remain, but the position of UK residents within the EU were something to be bargained with.

Exactly, Khandro. I am thinking about quite a lot of friends in France. France would happily kick them out and confiscate their homes. I've known this to happen (quite properly) when a builder was discovered to have been working 'on the black'. He had his passport confiscated, car impounded and had to sign over bank account and house before being given his car and passport - and 3 days to get out of the country. I think that he was also told that he would not be allowed back, but can't be sure of that. I know that the rest is accurate.

Quite so. As My Lord Tebbitt put it, they seem more concerned about the plight of the 3m EU citizens living here than they are about the 1m UK citizens living in the EU. This "amendment" will in all certainty be reversed when the Bill returns to the Commons and quite rightly so. The Bill is about giving the PM the authority to trigger A50. To place preconditions on that is absurd and I don't quite understand their Lordships' logic. Unless, of course, their ploy is simply to upset the applecart, but I cannot imagine that to be the case.
