knowing that it's a one way trip and takes many months to get there.
Interestingly many thousands have signed up to do just that.

It is the last thing on this earth I'd do.

Nope. I don't understand why anyone would want to.
I love the idea of going into space and exploring other planets. I would probably sign up, but then go into a massive panic after realising I'm not coming back and I'd never see my friends and family, or my books (!) ever again.
Because they are bonkers Emmie !

Kingsley Amis once said that he wouldn't mind going to see China, as long as he could home in time for Tea....I feel exactly the same way !
In a good mood I might think about it but I imagine living on recycled wee for 2 years would quickly lose it's novelty value!
no
I can imagine that the people most likely to apply would be those on the autism spectrum. By that, I mean those who feel they are self-sufficient, and can contemplate without much distress the idea of leaving most of their family and friends behind, with the full expectation of never seeing them again. Unfortunately, those are the people least likely to get on in a team. But if you feel you are ideal for the trip and do not suffer from Asperger's, I'd love to learn your reasoning for wanting to go on such a one-way trip

i confess when i heard this i thought it mad, but then again it was thought mad when man first stepped on the moon and now we have the ISS, so who is to say going to Mars isn't achievable.

i wouldn't want to go, even if i fitted the profile.
The big difference between any other manned flight into space up until now, and this new venture that MIGHT happen, is that all the rest of them have been return tickets.
What are the beaches like and would I be able to get 'civilised' food like a fry up or a Maccy D's?

I think I'd pass as I'm a coward and a poor one at that :-)
How amazing tho would it not be to go into space and see our Earth. I would love that.
All space exploration is for is,so we will have a new home planet to live on,once we have polluted the Earth so much we have to leave.
Eccles....I suspect that by the time we get to Mars, McDonalds will be there before us.

No beaches I'm afraid, as there is a distinct lack of sea water.
No chance of me going.
Eccles....there is a Sea of Tranquillity on the Moon....not sure about the water though !
TBF though the rocks are probably tastier than MaccyD's!
Oh hell, I'm guessing there won't be any karaoke bars either???

If that's the case I'm not going.
Never mind Maccyd's, will there be a Starbucks?
