This sign, alleged to have been written on a London Underground public notice board, I thought was superb too. It’s a fake, but nevertheless the sentiment is there. Perhaps it should become official.

they are the british people and against them you will never prevail....
yup Churchillian - but do we need a call to arms ?
In 1940 we had lost a whole army's materiel - altho the army was back in dear old blighty - some were throwing their arms out of the troop trains and saying "the Germans are coming!"
I am not sure that there is this feeling of defeat now
that is in need of a speech of defiance
what is wrong with:
" if you run at a police man with a knife you will get shot" ?

His speech has been called Churchillian but Churchill did not say we will stand united while you continue to destroy us, he said we shall fight
"We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender."

what did Martin McG hope to achieve
and did he get it ?
[ yes he got political power and all its trappings which was very nice for him and which he wouldnt have got without his past.
As for freedom and irish unity and unleashing Katleen ni Houlihan (that is Ireland again for you anglo shmucks) from the British yoke - that would have taken a few days more]
