It's hard not to admire the rounding up of these horrible people, but care must be taken to ensure it's done right.

It all looks good in the article, but no one controls the vigilantes except themselves. We don't wish to encourage unauthorised gangs doing their own thing. So, no.

No vigilantes are never a good idea because no-one is aware of their activities except themselves so they cannot be moderated adequately.

They are videoing it to hand to the police, so you would have to be very stupid to start knocking hell out of your target.

Referring to the incident as a 'trotted out line' does not invalidate the point being made - that vigilantes are not always the brightest people, and self- righteousness does not provide you with a ticket to take the law into your own hands.

No-one would argue that point - but self-appointed attention-seekers can often pervert the course of justice and mean that offenders escape the very justice these people claim to seek.
