//But a solution to the troubles WAS found!...even those who helped pave the way for that solution are today vilified for having had the temerity to start the peace process by "talking to them".//
Good point, Murdo.
I think we knew the aims of the IRA - British withdrawal from the North and a united Ireland under Dublin's control. We also knew what possible accommodation could be reached if that goal was not ceded, e.g. power-sharing in Ulster.
There was a presumption of rationality on both sides here, isn't there?
Now you tell me what you think the goals of the terrorists are. What are their grievances? What can we do, short of total surrender, which will appease them?
Neither you, I or the latest poster believe your "WAS found" in the IRA case will translate into a "WILL BE found" in this case.
That is because there is nothing rational about today's enemy.

You're so right, Anne......I did attend a music festival this year as I have done for a few years.....but it wasn't "as normal"....it was very different this year....
My kids sometimes work in London......now I worry....my granddaughter is about to start stage school in London.....I really wish she wasn't......I worry for my family and friends living in London.....
I love going to London for shows.....I won't be going with the excited, carefree feelings I once did.....
I can carry on....but not as normal.....this is evil we are living with.....

I too, would like to think that someone very clever could come up with a solution, but the more I think about it, the less I believe there is one.
Next week, there will be beefed-up security everywhere. And like I was saying the other day, extra police presence means squat when you have random terrorists who turn vehicles into weapons.
There's zero protection against that.

^ I wouldn't worry about your daughter being attracted to London. I have lived here since 1985 and nothing bad has happened to me. I have been all over the world and apart from being in the odd shooting in Rio etc, the only time I ever felt a bit unsafe was when I was in Washington when that Washington sniper guy was going around taking pot shots from his car (didn't stop be walking up the road to the Crate and Barrrel though - it would take more than a sniper to keep me from my shopping)
