^ OK I accept that, but in those 500 seconds they killed 7 people and seriously injured many more!
Using a car or van as a weapon is almost impossible to stop, they could have driven into a group of people and killed 10, 20 or more in one 'hit'
In that way it is worse than using a gun!

EDDIE regarding the children's trip. I would risk my own safety and go - that is my prerogative - but I do not think I have the right to risk the lives of others for whom I am responsible. I would not send the children.
I was given to understand that of the 7 killed 3 were the attackers. Am I right?
7 plus those 3 Jack.
Like Jourdain, I will go to London as often as I always have.....Were I still working I'd not want to be in charge of a group of schoolchildren......now..... :-(
I think we need more armed plain clothes police, (like Dirty Harry!).
No one will attack in the sight of an armed policemen and there cannot ever be enough for blanket coverage, but knowing there are armed men in plain clothes makes for less certainty for how long your rampage might last - or even begin.
The services did excellently during this attack, but I can't help but wonder what would have happened if the attackers had not chosen a place like London Bridge. It's a prominent and well-known area of London, so you 'd expect armed police to be close by there. It's awful to imagine but I reckon they would have had a lot more than 8 minutes in a "quieter" part of the country.

///No one will attack in the sight of an armed policemen///

If it's a Plain Clothes Policeman how would they know?

And I don't think a Suicide Bomber would give a second thought to pushing the button even standing next to one.

///knowing there are armed men in plain clothes makes for less certainty for how long your rampage might last - or even begin///

Remind me, how long does a Suicide Bombers rampage last?
@Khandro....You have said....."No one will attack in the sight of an armed policemen".

I go along with Baldric who has said...."I don't think a Suicide Bomber would give a second thought to pushing the button even standing next to one".

It might be comforting to see armed Police, but they are unlikely to shoot at someone who is acting somewhat suspiciously. If the person concerned is then confronted and questioned by an armed Police Officer in a crowded place, he/she under suspicion is going to be the first to 'pull the trigger'.

Hans.

Hans.
You are perhaps right about suicide bombers, though none have ever blown themselves up next to armed policemen and I think they would be well spotted before they did, that's why they always go into crowds. I was thinking of a rampage as the London bridge attack with knives.
I think the police response took nearly ten minutes.
According to various sources......

//Terrorists were shot dead 8 minutes from first call//
// Perhaps a little injection of perspective here. //

o heavens that is a first for AB
"Jeremy Corbyn has argued that people who support Islamic State should not be prosecuted for “expressing a political point of view”.

The Labour leader told MPs that Britain should not make "value judgements" and that holding a view was not in itself "an offence." "
Telegraph

When it comes to supporters of ISIL, I definitely will make "value judgements" Jeremy.
