People die from accidents. Other people die because other people for whatever reason want to kill them.
Is the ratio of deaths due to accident compared to that due to malice 10,000:1,1000:1? 100:1? Or some other number? And who care's?
You (not "you", I mean normal people) wouldn't want people who deliberately sabotage aircraft working at Heathrow, innit? Only PP and the mayor of London think this should be part and parcel of urban life.

/// Thank you goodgoalie, naomi and Mamya. My Goddaughter and her husband are travelling back from Euston tonight but I've just spoken to her Mum and they are safely on the train back to Manchester. ///
It is terrible that some have to hold such anxieties in a country that was once a such a peaceful and safe country.

/// 10ClarionSt, I'm not sure how you expect anyone to prevent random attacks like this. Tell me. ///
I thought you had already pointed out a solution (note I was careful not to say a "final solution") in a previous post, the one that was rewarded the best answer.
Not a criticism you understand, I agreed 100%.

AOG, when I found out about this last night, my first thoughts went to my Goddaughter who I have known since the day she was born 47yrs ago.Her and her husband had gone to London and were due back on the train late last night. I was so desperate to find out if she was ok, I felt I couldn't breathe. Fortunately I was able to get hold of her Mum, who told me they were safely on the train back to Manchester but it turns out, they were on that bridge earlier. As you say, it is terrible that we are now living with this fear. I am only one of thousands who suffer this terrible anxiety when this happens, it makes me so angry but it also makes me very very sad.
Of course we will get on with out lives....but not as normal....normal for me is not sitting outside my regular bar with a pint of Guinness and suddenly being surrounded by armed police and soldiers and watching, instead of the usual entertainment I'm used to, a man being hauled to the ground, questioned and taken away.....
Normal is not sitting in despair listening to news of another attack and wondering if one of mine was in the area....
And I don't want a whole generation of children growing up thinking this is normal life.....

That's a poignant remark, Guess. The first part is political rhetoric: carry on as usual - they won't cow us. The second is the actual truth: you restrict your teenage daughter's freedom of movement when there's a serial rapist on the loose, don't you? And, in that situation, all women , all parents are frightened. That affects our minds and changes our behaviour.
But persisting with my metaphor, there appears to be an ever increasing number of potential rapists.
