Perhaps we should wait until the investigation is completed instead of speculating? Getting to the root of the problem will be the only way to stop a similar one happening again.

I seem to remember the fridge being named more or less on the day that it happened. The aesthetically-pleasing cladding then seems to have carried the flames up the building.

I really feel sorry for the man whose fridge freezer it was. I do hope he's offered some sort of counseling, as I'm sure he may need it.

" - well if they made it and claimed it was fire retardant then yes but in reality it will be a cost decision by the builder et al. What I cannot fathom is that no one seems to be looking at how this place got a fire certificate, that stinks to high heaven. Might as well have coated the place in straw.

The fire was started by a faulty F/Freezer, this in-turn found & caused a fire in a product that should not have been used, to me the company responsible are Hotpoint, correct me if I'm wrong.

Only if the product was sold with a known fault that could cause such an outcome.

There was reports that H--------T recalled these machines due to electrical issue Murray, I'm sure the fault will lie with them.x

But can Hotpoint be blamed if the owner didn't respond to the recall? As has been said, rather than speculate we should await the outcome of the investigation. I think there are going to be many facets to what went wrong.

It could have been bought second hand or inherited, absolutely lots of reasons.


I have items in my home that are years old, I don't constantly check if they are on a recall list.

It's tragic of course and everyone wants to pin the blame somewhere - understandable.

ummmm, as I recall, the manufacturer of the cladding gave an interview last week in which he said they did two sort of cladding, one less flammable than the other, but the people doing the work wanted the cheaper, more dangerous one.

It seems as though practices need looking at over the whole country. I don't know if regulations were broken, or if building standards were just never adequate in the first place.

TWR, I can't see how you can turn fridge freezers off at night. That sounds very odd. Think of the food inside them. I wouldn't want to do it.
