I'm saddened and shocked and in cases like this where you act like an animal the punishment should be like those for a wild killer animal, the words "Sharia law" spring to mind and if you're far right or an islamaphobe replace the word "Sharia" with "Medieval" as those muslims sure know how to meat out justice where we tickle our criminals with cotton wool gloves and "Balsa wood" sentences

Every one of the murders I spoke to gave me the same answer when I asked if the death penalty would have made a difference. They all said 'No, it made no difference as the murder was a one off'.
The huge majority of murders are committed in the heat of an argument for example or a moment of rage.
I have never spoken to a 'mass murderer' or a child killer though.
The last thing most people who have committed murder think of is the chance of being caught!
Capital punishment isn’t a deterrent – but it’s a positive way of ensuring that no one else suffers at the hands of a particular perpetrator.
//How can you tell someone that they don't know "fearfulness".//
because this is AB of course

nothing makes sense and it is probably better that way

is it different to 'fear' ?
Naomi - //Capital punishment isn’t a deterrent – but it’s a positive way of ensuring that no one else suffers at the hands of a particular perpetrator. //

You know as well as I do that the vast majority of murders are the sort that Eddie mentions - one-off crimes of passion, so the notion of preventing someone from doing it again is meaningless.

CP is revenge, state-sponsored revenge, for sections of a society that feels better if revenge is extracted on their behalf. I am not one of those people.
id vote for it to be brought back, plenty of jihadists in jail that could use a rope round their necks, but our ethnic communities would say there brothers are being murdered in jails, and that would not do, as they are all innocent freedom fighters for god.
andy-hughes, //CP is revenge, state-sponsored revenge//

I disagree.
Capital Punishment is state-sponsored torture!
agree with Islay

Isn't strange, always comments about the person that has committed the offence but the victim is never mentioned! a youg girl gets murdered what about the life she could have had, having children, having a life, no matter which way you look at it, the person new what his / her intention was when committing this evil crime, let them pay the. price
Andy is right. All CP does is to make a few people feel better. it won't stop murders happening again, as can be seen in America today.

Last weekend, 14 people were murdered in Chicago alone. This is in 1 city over 1 weekend. Few places in the world are as keen to execute people like America, and yet CP appears to have no effect whatsoever.

So why should we follow suit ?
Mikey, it doesn't make me feel better, nor do I see it as 'revenge' as andy-hughes would have it. I see it as a solution to a problem. I would shed no tears at the demise of people like Michael Adebolajo. Can you honestly say you would?
I may have the wrong Answer Mikey, but if a Dog bites a person for no reason, put it down it does not happen again as we have seen, that's my view, it may not be others but we are all entitled to our own view, how many times have Murders been let out of prison only to do it again, how many times have you heard of persons coming from the EU & the world committing murders in their own country's?
After four pages this thread's still going ?
We all know we have left the barbarism of State administered murder back in the Dark Ages. There's no going back to primitive times. Especially not for reasons of vengeance.
TWR by murdering or torturing the criminal is that going to bring back the victim?
I'll say it again, what about the victim?
You can say it as many times as you want!
How is torturing or murdering the criminal going to bring back the victim?
killing another for any reason is wrong..nobody forgets the victim..best dealt with through due process and have a never ending incarceration give him time to reflect and regret ..and suffer loss of liberty.... CP only gives some kind kind of satisfaction to some folks but a release for the perp...will not bring the poor soul back....
It's obviously not going to bring back the Victim, but what a life that the victim "Could have had" no one seem to consider that.
It can't bring back the victim but it can prevent more of them.

Maybe the reason that the death penalty in the US is seen by some as ineffective is that many seem to spend their lives on death row rather than swinging from the gibbet.
Of course they consider that, TWR, that's why they get 'life' for murder.
