It's far too early for me to be up, let alone thinking clearly......but..

This is way too far, AOG......the NT was gifted his home to be cared for so the public could enjoy it......they were not gifted his past private life to use in this way.......

I'd thought the aim of the NT was to preserve and protect Britain's agricultural heritage......but now, after reading AOG's link I have discovered Prejudice and Pride....I need to look at that a bit more but I wouldn't blame the volunteers if they took their time and enthusiasm elsewhere.........x

The Rainbow is a christian symbol. It is not exclusively a 'Gay Pride' emblem. Wearing a rainbow badge does not mean you are proud to be gay, it means you are tolerant of other people who are not hetrosexual.

It seems a trivial thing to get het up about; on both sides of the argument.
I'm not sure the NT need to be so heavy-handed but I'm not sure that the volunteers need to be quite so mimsy about it, either.

That's the NT being PC and wanting the pink £. And of course it feeds into the 'outing' of anyone and everyone either living or dead. Privacy has no place in the gay world.

I would not volunteer during the time the badge is worn if it was that much of an issue for me.

Perhaps all the volunteers that don't want to wear one should turn up for work and not meet the public or, have a nice tea party or picnic in the grounds and not 'go to work' that day at all.

How many volunteers does it take to open a country house? Would they have enough paid staff and volunteers if half went on sickies or holiday??

It is the same with all matters such as this, it does more harm than help towards fostering understanding and tolerance between certain minority groups and the general population.

If they HAD to carry a big flag and wear tee-shirts then I could understand volunteers being upset, but a Small rainbow badge to represent the organisation's inclusivity, seems pretty harmless.

The Mail report didn't in fact feature a volunteer who objected to wearing the badge, probably because there are no volunteers who do object to it. Simply a case of roghtwingers getting their knickers in a twist about something that everyone concerned isn't much bothered about.
