Oh rubbish AOG they have been asked to wear it or they will be on restricted duties, so for a time NT is making part of their uniform - don't like it don't work there - simples.
You and the Daily Wail need to stop twisting things to your own agenda!
jno
maybe he should be outed to the world should he?

if he's alive, no

Wear it or we will punish you.
Just like those who didn't hide their homosexuality got punished ... brilliant.

Talbot
Not for the first time you are making little sense!
Big advertisement in the local paper when he dies it is then.

oh, is that what happened, or are you making it up?
Islay, that's because you are blinkered.

How many people today have you pronounced as 'anti-gay'?
I think the “he wouldn’t have liked it” argument is a bit specious because we just don’t know. At the time the best choice for him, and many others, was to keep his orientation to himself, but if he was alive today, he might have been both relieved and delighted to be able to be more open.
setting that aside, I wonder if people’s reactions would be different if the badge/lanyard was in support of people who had been subject to something like child abuse or racism?
How can it have happened

'when'

'when'

?
I haven't prounced anyone as anti gay - I asked what the problem was with wearing the badge unless they were anti gay!
They have been asked to wear a badge not wear a ruddy great Tshirt! the are being precious children!
As I have said Wolf ... whatever the cause people (volunteers) should have the choice without the threat of a punishment.

///threatened? With what? ? ///

Did you drop off at some stage, that's unusual for you.

But to answer you, dedicated volunteers who enjoy the job they do, enough to do it for no pay, but are now threatened that they will have to do more menial work if they refuse to wear the badge.

Nazism and Communism springs to mind.
So if they hold a Christian week and Muslim volunteers were forced to wear a Christian symbol would you all be so accepting?

The NT have over stepped the mark by this whole campaign, it is far away from what Robert Hunter, Octavia Hill and Hardwicke Rawnsley set out to do. This is once again the NT stepping into politics on which they should stand well clear.

As a lifetime member I am in the middle of constructing a letter urging them to stick to core values and avoid alienating people.

What punishment? I have yet to see any threats of punishments?
Are they going to be hung from the Fellbrigg hall battlements and thrashed soundly? Or thrown in the dungeons and only fed bread and water?
Islay read the article or some of the posts on here without your blinkers to find out.
Even though this is down to some authoritarian at the national trust who probably gets a big fat wage for controlling volunteers, this type of thing doesn't do anything to help the LBGTQ community.

You can virtual signal all you like Islay ... it won't.
Virtue

bloody thing.
//Whilst volunteering for the National Trust we do request and expect individuals to uphold the values of the organisation.//
The NT is an equal rights employer!

Read the article or the one I read in the Independent and you will know.
I have read the article several times but cannot see any threats or punishment?

Perhaps when they next collect for some LGBT cause you should take note how many people don't contribute, perhaps you would then also class them anti-gay?
