The ones at the front can see whats coming and are afraid and try to warn the others, those further back can't see but believe the warning and act anyway, those in the middle can't see and might or might not hear the warning but act as normal anyway and do nothing, and then you have those at the back who look out of the back windows and ignore all warnings because everything looks OK to them and even worse they tell the others that there is no problem and ridicule those who are issuing the warnings.
qapmoc. I never once said that there was no such thing as global warming! What I said was that we need to get accurate unbiased data before we can fully understand the state of the planet instead of guessing and jumping to conclusions. And if you honestly believe that we can actually change the climate of our earth and "avert disaster" you need a reality check!
Waldo. I think you will also find that I also posted a link that refuted your claims! And besides all current data is tainted no matter what side it comes from!
I used to believe that our scientists knew exactly what was going on until I read a book on the subject and then subsequently done some research on it and have hence changed my views! The truth is they cant even predict what our climate will be like in 20 years time never mind 100 years time.
Next time you see a climate change or global warming news story look out for the words "catastrophe/catastrophic/disasters/etc." and phrases like "scientists believe","scientist estimate" media & government scaremongering at it's best!
I don't understand your point about watching out for expressions such as "scientists believe" or"scientist estimate".
Is it your understanding that we should only trust the word of scientists if they say 'It is conclusively true that x, y and z'? It is inevitable that you're going to be dealing with predictions and estimates when you're dealing with a system of the size and complexity of global weather systems; I can't see how you could expect anything else. Of course scientists might turn out to be wrong, but that doesn't mean that they just pluck figures out of thin air in order to fit their personal bias - they are based on observed changes over reasonably long periods of time.
Hi NF, I don't remember putting any names in my earlier post. But anyway, of course I believe that we can change the climate because we are already doing so in a bad way, as to 'averting disaster' well that really depends on which way you look at it. the only disaster we are talking about here is to the continued consumeristic (is that a real word), wasteful, dont give a sh*t about anyone or anything way of living, which much of the developed world see's as normal these days.
In the past the world has been hotter than it is now, it has been frozen from pole to pole, it has had much higher sea levels than it has now, it has been wacked by large rocks (I cant spell asteroids) and the world and life in general is still here,
what we are doing now is heading for disaster for the industrialised part of the human race, the poor, undeveloped of the world with nothing anyway will probably not notice the difference much if the industrial world collapses, you guys with cars and planes and gagdets and reliance on cheap power and cheap transport and underpriced oil to move goods around the world will not know what hits you when things start to get really bad in the environment and the cards start to fall some time in the future.
So if we can and do affect the climate badly why shouldn't people make an attempt to affect it in a good way, surely better to encourage the attempt for good than to say yeah but its not proven so whats the point.
First things first, do not look at history of the planet and say global warming occured before. Wrong and stupid.
Dinosaurs occured before also but they aint back knocking over the potted colour in my garden.
Heat waves and climate change now kill more people than Al qeader. So do we need a war on Co2?.
We need to realize that 100 years ago there were 1 billion people on this planet gearing up in an industrial revolution (post oil).
200 years ago there were 1/8 of the worlds current population who burnt wood to keep warm (post coal).
Today there are 6.7 billion people who are running out of things to burn.(You name it, we incinerate it)
Thats why we have more pollution in the air than air to breath.
The problem is that particulate polution saves us from the higher temperatures that the Co2 would otherwize contain. The Global Dimming discussion has yet to occur, which will greatly increase your need to become scared.
OH and by the way, the art of communicating does not need puctuation best grammer or great spelling, I use none of these when I speak, so if you want to discuss proper preppy English, rack off to an English discussion site.
