Apart From What Happened When A Single Mad Person Ploughed Into The Crowd And Killed One Woman And Injuring Others, Were The Far-Right Within Their Rights To Protest Against The Removal Of A Historic Confederate General's Statue?

I believe they were, and if the Far-Left choose to violently oppose them, then they should be equally laid to blame, without the need for Trump or anyone else be made to blame just one side specifically.
So Mr Sajid Javid and Shadow defence secretary Nia Griffith, stop your talk about the President of the USA defending Neo-Nazis so should not be allowed a State Visit to the UK.

I raised this yesterday and true to form the left on here failed to condemn violent and criminal acts attempting instead to try and deflect to the utlra right. Unfortunatel y time and time again (around the world) we see the left attempt to stop free speech by blocking a protest. Both sides should be allowed to protest freely without fear of violence and...

I think we should step back and look at all the murders and lynching that have been committed over the past 50 years, and consider which groups have been in the lead of terrorising ordinary folk.
Who has murdered abortion doctors?
Who killed Jo Cox?
Who were in charge of lynchings?
Who bombed Oklahoma?
Is there a left wing version of the KKK? If so, how many people have they chained to the back of trucks, and driven down dirt tracks until the person is dead?
Pretty slow and painful.
I don't see an equivalency.
If neo-Nazis and the KKK didn't exist, the Far Left wouldn't have anything to do.
The former defines the latter.
I'm with the latter.
The issue with the former is that they hate many sections of society - the Jews, the blacks, the Hispanics, the gays.
The great thing about the far left is that they concentrate their hatred on the Far Right.
They should be lauded.

Thank God you weren't around during World War II.
"The Nazis are bad with all the gassing and Kristallnacht and stuff, but there's a lot of violence on both sides".
I can totally understand your abhorrence of violence, but the Nazis and KKK are the ones who started the fire...as Billy Joel so succinctly put it.

jim; //Nazi flags and Nazis salutes are a pretty good guide to people brandishing them being Nazis.//
Any one brandishing a Swastika flag knows less of what it symbolizes than even you. The Nazi flag means (meant) one thing and one thing only, and that was German National Socialism.
It is now being used erroneously to denote anything of the far right.

The origin of the swastika is now lost in the mists of time, because 99.9% of people now associate it with Nazis.
Tell you what - if you had new people move next door to you, and they ran a flag depicting the swastika up a pole in their front garden, would you say:
"Oh look, Mrs Khandro, they have the Sanskrit symbol of 'good luck' there"
Or would you say:
"Oh balls, we've got Nazis living next door, get on to www.rightmove.com"

If indeed the symbol is being appropriated by morons then that's hardly my responsibility. But you should certainly stop professing my ignorance, Khandro. I go on what I saw, and what I saw -- what anyone could see -- was a grotesque celebration of one of the worst evils the world has ever seen.
As to whether I understand it or not... that's not for you to judge, is it?

Further to Garaman's post, here's Theresa May on the subject:

I believe there are broadly two issues here.
One is condemnation of violence, and plainly there was violence not just from the far right in Charlottesville.
However, there plainly is an issue also whereby these ultra-right/alt-right/whatever racists/Nazis/KKK/whitesupremacists think President Trump is "on their side" and undoubtedly gain confidence from that.
Trump needs to stamp on that and do it decisively and quickly. Assuming he can see the problem and has the will to do it. Those are pretty big "ifs" I'd say. Otherwise they will continue to grow in confidence, these demos will continue and so will the counter demos.

SP, I thank God(?) I wasn’t around during World War II too, but the thought occurs to me that while references to that appalling period in history keep popping up here, I see no reference to the left’s strangulation on freedom in all the eastern European countries that have now changed their minds about the wonders of Socialism/Communism. These people turned up to prevent the other side protesting – and they did it with violence – and for that you call them heroes. In my opinion they – all of them - along with their respective philosophies, are scum – but your criticism is highly selective to say the least, so all I can say is think about what you’re really supporting and be careful what you wish for because it may not be what you would really wish for. There are times when no one side is right, and this is one of them. President Trump was absolutely correct to condemn the lot of them.

Actually - you raise a valid point. Communism was just as dangerous (in historical terms) as Nazism.
However, the problem with Trump equivocating in his condemnation is that he is now in a position where he's actually being thanked by the KKK and neo-Nazis for his position.
The moment a neo-Nazi thanks me for a public statement I've made, is the moment I start examining my life choices.

SP, As I said to Mikey recently, that they claim to support him doesn’t mean he supports them. In that respect he has no life choices to examine. He, quite rightly, condemned them all – but perhaps they are also selective and, as the selective are wont to do, ignored the bit that didn’t suit their purpose.
