I'm all for women being treated as equals, but if these plans go ahead, who is going to sweep up, make the beds and sew buttons on, that's what I want to know ?

LOL @ Islay, but not submitting much in the way of debate or counter argument!
Men and women sign up to serve their respective countries (for which I am grateful that they are brave enough to do so)
To be captured, tortured and murdered is stuff made of nightmares.

Apropos of nuffink at all, am sure I saw a programme a couple of years ago which demonstrated that women aren't cut out to be Marines in the UK army
Mikey, the same folk who have always done that, themselves :-D

Ah, but that was a programme you saw, not one you'd made yourself.
Most of the women I know are not cut out to be in the military.

From another link on the BBC site:

It's the physical demands of serving in close combat, particularly in the infantry that remain the biggest barrier.

This latest review by the MoD has concluded more research needs to be done to assess the impact on a woman's body, not least the effect of carrying heavy weights, often the equivalent of 10 stone (63kg) for long periods of time, out on patrol in the harshest conditions.

Plenty of male soldiers have found that a challenge in Afghanistan.

The MoD will also be wary for the potential of compensation claims if there are long-term injuries.

Last year it paid three female RAF recruits £100,000 each after they suffered injuries caused by marching in step with their male colleagues.

Oh dear!
Don't need to submit an counter arguement to the rubbish links you have supplied as they are only sexist rantings!
If a woman can meet the fitness levels required for the forces and can meet all the other requirements laid down then she has as much right to be on the front line as men do!
All this 'what if' is a waste of fresh air!
What if a woman gets captured? Well its her job to be a soldier so she will follow the guidelines set down just as a man would, she will also know the risks and if she is not prepared to take that risk then she should not join up!
Oh she will encourge men to fornicate! Believe me men don't need such encourgement!
It's only the RAF regiment. Not proper infantry !!
Most of the men I know aren't cut out for the military, ummm
lol HC !

That's another reason......certain bodily functions in the female! LOL
From Wiki, "Close combat means a violent physical confrontation between two or more opponents at short range"

...and all in the cause of diversity. I suspect many of these women will become a liability. Crazy.

More sense from a lady who's certainly 'been there, done that':

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-447215/Why-women-line-Major-Judith-Webb.html

But let the PC madness continue unabated.
That's very true, hc.
I don't think this move would make the RAF a laughing stock. As has already been pointed out, the Israeli army has plenty of women who can kick ass, and the idea that women will be a liability (e.g. capture) is pretty weak.
I think the biggest problem will be the propaganda used by a group like the Taliban (who hate women anyway). Expect to see rape and other disgusting things done to them and published on the internet.

Personally I have no issue with women doing it providing the entry requirements are not dropped to achieve a 'PC target'. My only problem is the one I have outlined above, which will happen.

/// Educate all us silly ladies please that seem to take issue with your response to this news item. ///

Admit to being silly if you must, but please don't group all other AB ladies as being equally silly.
