It certainly seems, based on current reports, that it was a targetted attack, and that ought to be be condemned.

Mickey, no one is saying this is anything but a despicable attack.

However to try and prevent future attacks it is important to properly understand the underlying problem. If he was attacked due to the colour of his skin then yes - a racist attack. If he was attacked due to his religion and its connections then no it is not. I guess both can be cover by the term 'hate crime' although I hate such labelling as I believe the Establishment use them to hide the underlying issue.

As for him being a doctor and an Immam I dont see any issue. I worked (and travelled quite extensively) with an Immam who help a full time job in the City as I did. It is not really like a priest/vicar.
