Hugh has died. He may not fit the latest right-on trends these days but the man undoubtedly changed all of our lives and bought sexual fredoms to the fore.
Nabokov, Bellow, Atwood, Updike, Lessing, and many other respected authors wrote for the Magazine.
Its not the magazine that my earlier comments were aimed at but Hefner himself. There was something decidedly creepy about an old man surrounded by young girls who were obviously paid to be there.
I don't see anything creepy about "old men" being surrounded by young girls (paid OR unpaid).
Are you suggesting that he was having sexual relations with them?
Aged 91....he clearly did something right and healthy in his life.
He did much good work, taking attractive but incredibly dense young women off the street and putting them to work for his gratification while keeping them relatively safe.
I agree with douglas who like Sir Robert Walpole was totally enveloped in the welfare of the women of the night in London.
Two great names to be thanked.
