NoM, I've had that happen (prices go up when you check a second time) with EasyJet too, and I wouldn't be surprised if others do the same. Clear cookies and try again.

I used Monarch many times and I liked them compared to Thomas Cook, Thompson and the dreadful easyjet.
But they have been financially shakey for years. They were owned by a semi-royal, rich Luxemburg family for years.
Another win for ISIS. Monarch's profitable holiday destinations like Tunisia and Turkey have been badly affected in the last few years.

They'll still have their holiday while transport is arranged.

having got flights booked with them, i was a tad grumpy when i woke up this morning, but as someone has said, first world problems and all that jazz. I booked mine on a credit card, so i expect i'll be ok refund wise. ho hum :)

Anybody know how many staff have lost their jobs, including maintenance workers, office staff and what happens to all the planes etc?

Its these people I feel sorry for, not the holidaymakers.

Webbo...what I meant by my earlier remark, is that this sort of thing....an Airline going bust is something that we used to see a lot of many years ago, but not so much now. Remember Court Line ?

My first trip abroad, as an adult ( well, 17 anyway ) was done by Clarkson Holidays and Court Line, when we went to Calella de mar,in Spain.

But there have been rumours of financial difficulties at Monarch for some time now, so I am not really surprised by today's events.

Yes I agree trt....a holiday is only 2 weeks, where losing a job may be much longer. But I feel sorry for everyone caught up in this sorry affair.

I'm pretty sure Airbus pilots wont have too much of a problem getting a new job.

I also doubt trained trolley dollies will either, although they may have to work a budget airline if they want short haul work.

Monarch was a budget airline doing shor-haul work, wasn't it? It gave up long-haul some time ago.

An Airbus to Boeing conversion course is a lot quicker and cheaper than training a new pilot from scratch. Just a few weeks.
