I know mikey,but worry I will.
it's a fine country, but gun laws, health service and extreme weather in most places apart from San Diego would deter me from living there. However, as B00 says, there are killers everywhere.
jno....I have made many trips to the States over the last 40-odd years, mostly staying with friends. I used to think how wonderful it would be live somewhere like Arizona or California...all that sun and hardly any rain, with incredible scenery at every turn.

But I realised a long time ago, that holidaying and living somewhere are very different things. Their gun laws and lack of affordable healthcare would prevent me from contemplating moving there now.

Add to that, the possibility of a country electing someone like Trump.....!
> I recall Trumps comments, after the Bataclan terrorist attack....he said something like......"if only the people in the concert hall had had access to guns, they could have fought back". Can you imagine the carnage that would have occurred in Las Vegas, if the audience had started shooting at the lone gunman on the 32nd floor !

In this case they did have access to guns ...

The state of Nevada has some of the most permissive gun laws in the US. It is legal to carry an assault rifle and there is no magazine capacity limit. There are no purchase permits and blue cards are no longer required. There is no waiting period mandated for firearm purchases and private gun sales are OK.

... which is almost certainly how the gunman got hold of the weapon(s) he used. However, you can bet your bottom dollar that Trump and his team are now working feverishly on how to mitigate the damage to the pro-gun lobby. Probably by ignoring the issue completely and focusing on something else, say Puerto Rico or bending the knee ... In fact, why not combine the two? The gunman was a knee-bending Democrat who clearly hates his country.
Pretty sure they wouldnt let a commie supporter like you live there anyway Mickey.
YMB...thanks...you say the nicest things !
If the USA is so bad I wonder why its citizens aren't beating a hasty path to the Mexican border before the wall goes up. ;o)
mikey, most of Arizona (and Nevada, for that matter) would be practically unlivable without air conditioning. Lovely places to visit, though.

Florida's nice too, but hurricanes...
Wasn't meant to be anything other than fact.

Having applied (and got) a H-1B in the past I know how bloody awkward they are when is comes to residency even if it is temporary.

naomi, No I am not being paid the advertise Quora , I mention Answerbank on there at least as much as I mention Quora on here.
Each site has things one could learn from the other.
jno...regarding Air Con....how on earth are those poor people in places like Puerto Rico managing, with the prospect of a total lack of lecky for the next 6-8 month ?
Eddie....I have tried Quora a few times, but I must say, that its not a patch on AB !
Mikey, most of the people living in the Caribbean don't have air conditioning.
naomi....on Puerto Rico, they can't even power their fridges.

I understand that there are Federal workers present, but it shouldn't be too difficult to set up emergency diesel generators. Not sure if that is being done though.
Perhaps that's what's happening, Mikey.... or perhaps the power lines have been repaired now.
It was on the bbc just now, that the gunman lived in a retirement residence.

His female partner, apparently walked along the audience half an hour before the shooting, shouting that everybody was going to die!
poor people

hundreds wounded they report -
feel also for the hospital staff - god knows what the emergency room looked like
-- answer removed --
Peter those Emergency rooms must resemble Military Field Hospitals, awful.
