Really sorry to hear that. Massive talent. If you don't have Damn the Torpedoes, you should! It's essential.

It's not yet reported on the BBC. Therefore it may not be true.

You can be reasonably sure that if something like this is reported on the BBC that it is true. They do make mistakes, but have a careful checking policy that is not used by other less reputable news outlets.

I really hope this is true....BBC and Sky not reporting anything, which is encouraging.
"Always looked very healthy, too. (Compared to some of his peers)"

Pretty much what I said to my wife, Spicerack. Fingers crossed for good news soon.
im stunned and saddened, such a great talent...
Another report from half an hour ago, seems to indicate that reports of his deathis a mistake.

Hope so.
If this is not 100%, verifiably true - posted on the BBC website, for instance - then it definitely should NOT have been posted on Answerbank.
I've never heard of him so I googled his songs and I've never heard of them either. Nevertheless, for his sake, and for the sake of his loved ones, I hope he's not dead.
Bit harsh, good goalie. It was widely reported.
The BBC is far from being the font of truth, nowadays.
TMZ tend to have the definitive news. If the news is on TMZ then is it probably Kosher
Have wikipedia buried him ?
No they haven't. Fingers crossed.

Naomi, he was a Travelling Willbury.

On matters of fact, rather than opinion, they are a good source to trust. They don't rush to be first. They don't share what they haven't checked for themselves. For more details see:

The person who posted this provided no link - where did the information come from? Very poor to post something about someone's death that possibly is not true.
Played at my boss's funeral:

Gromit, they killed him off earlier and as a result he's still shown as dead in the sidebar if you Google his name.

His wikipedia article shows him in both the present and past tense, e.g. the intro paragraph (is an American musician ... was best known ...):

------------------------------
Thomas Earl Petty[1] (born October 20, 1950) is an American musician, singer, songwriter, multi instrumentalist and record producer. He was best known as the lead singer of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, but was also known as a member and co-founder of the late 1980s supergroup the Traveling Wilburys and his early band Mudcrutch.
------------------------------
Ahhh.... thanks Gromit. I've heard of them.....

...’Anything you want, you got it’ … (well, not you, you understand, but you know what I mean). Love it - and Roy Orbison!!!!
Just saying, this wasn't some kind of malicious post. The LAPD, mistakenly, said he was dead and it was widely reported.
If you relied on the BBC to post on some things, you'd be waiting a long time.
