Let us hope that this woman is a very old woman before she is released from jail.

Andy - there isn't a topic to discuss. Only someone seriously mentally unhinged could forget such a horrific murder.
ummmm - That was my point in my original post - nothing to debate here, hopefully this has now run its course, and doesn't sit around waiting to get removed in a downward spiral of sniping.

/// You take an article that could provide an interesting discussion, spoil it with a deliberately provocative, or stupid, thread
title ///

For starters my thread title was not meant to be 'deliberately provocative', why should it.

'Stupid'? perhaps so, taking into account the way some have chosen to attack me for it, had I had known perhaps I may have spent more time thinking of a headline so as to enter a top news story up for discussion on what is after all the News Section.

But then Jack surely it would have been better for you who after all admits that it could have been an interesting discussion, to ignore my headline and turned the thread into what some of us seek, that being an interesting discussion, rather than the gang slanging match that it turned out to be.
I did try - you just can't help some people.
I answered the question as you had framed it, AOG.

It didn't invite discussion.
AOG - //But then Jack surely it would have been better for you who after all admits that it could have been an interesting discussion, to ignore my headline ... //

And we're back in the room ...

How on earth can jack, or anyone else, ignore your headline, when it's the question that you asked?

You ask a question, people answer it, that's how the site works. You can't ask people to ignore your question simply because you don't like the answers that you received.

Better perhaps to re-think the OP, or if it is actually worth asking, since in this instance, it answers itself.

So who decides what is legible for debate?

This horrific murder was headline news and rightly so according to it's unusual factors.

If you cannot find anything that deserves your debating skills then why not just ignore this 'non news story and hop over to ChatterBank, where recently one could join in a discussion on watching varnish dry, or what are you having for tea.

All riveting stuff I am sure. but not for me I'm afraid, that is why I chose to ignore those threads rather than enter them with my negative remarks, as you and others chose to do on this thread.

You have already stated that it could have provided an interesting discussion.
It could have done......if you had appraoched it from a different angle or used a different heading but you didn't and so all we are left to discuss is the question you asked.....which actually precluded discussion because it was itself a discussional cul-de-sac.
AOG talks about Chatterbank like it's beneath him yet seems to know what is said in there on a regular basis.
I've highlighted AOG's tendency to use sensationalist / provocative / over emotional headlines many times.

If you want a sensible debate AOG, ask a sensible question. It's really quite simple.

Perhaps I have been brought up a little different than some on here.

I was taught to politely say " I don't care for the way you have provided the headline AOG, to me it doesn't make sense, but apart from that" ....... and then there is an injection of views relative to the news story and so on and so forth.

The other alternative is to take a glance and if not interested then move on to something that does interest you, it makes sense surely?
gedaouttahere! You, polite! Ha!
You lie like a cheap chinese watch AOG!!
You may have been brought up to be polite but you are anything but!!
A debate requires at least two opposing points of view, otherwise there is no debate, just consensus.

What is there to debate in this news report and your headling, AOG?
You are anything but polite, AOG!
This is pathetic. It's like watching a gang of kids picking on someone they've decided is a 'weirdo'.
I agree with Ludwig. Utterly pathetic.
ludwig and naomi spot on!!

/// so all we are left to discuss is the question you asked ///

You still don't get it do you?

You could have chosen to discuss the horrific murder.

For example I could have chosen to put a headline such as this "THIS MUST HAVE SCARED THE PEOPLE OF THE EAST END OF LONDON"?

Appertaining to the crimes of Jack the Ripper.

Would you then have just criticised the headline by saying "what a stupid question to ask, of course it must have", when there was a perfectly legible subject up for discussion?
