.....says Roy Hattersley.

///Labour is facing the biggest crisis in its history as the leftwing pressure group Momentum tries to purge it of moderate MPs and councillors in a systematic takeover of the party, former deputy leader Roy Hattersley has warned.//

Khandro

I don't think anyone else would say it because of the Godwin's Law thing.
// people were understandably fed up with the austerity

// The Conservatives... should be cutting expenditure //

Er they have
been cutting expenditure - it’s called austerity.

Disturbingly, I find myself agreeing with khandro here :-)

Hattersley is plainly correct: there are a lot of very good people in Labour though, and it remains to be seen if they will fight back against this.
Labour's civil war has been fought and done with already - it happened last summer. Corbyn has decisively won it, and he's really the only person who has the power to rein them in. I hope he does, but doubt that he will.
Itchy, and others.....Labour can't achieve anything, unless it wins future Elections. Corbyn has increased the size of the Labour vote very considerably over the last 2 years.
Question Author
Mikey, Labour disappeared years ago. What are you actually supporting?
Naomi.....you need to go to Specsavers !

Labour is still there !

I have always supported Labour ( as you did, once at least )
Question Author
Mikey, you've always supported the box labelled 'Labour', never understanding that it now contains fakes.
They are not fakes Naomi. They are genuine Marxists.
Naomi....what difference does it really make to you ?

They could dig up John Smith and make him Labour Leader again, and you still wouldn't vote labour would you ?

In the end, the people of Britain will decide who will wins the next Election and this constant debate we have here on AB won't matter. If there was an election this Thursday, there is no guarantee that the Tories would win, especially as the "special relationship" that May was forced into with the DUP, appears to be collapsing.
Question Author
Togo, exactly. Labour no longer exists.

Mikey, //Naomi....what difference does it really make to you ?//

I don’t want to see my country fall to Marxism/Communism – that’s why it makes a difference to me. Why do you want to see that, Mikey?
Naomi...I don't, and that is just silly, childish hyperbole talk, as you well know.
It is what the inherently jealous, covetous, and ultimately "unable to prosper in a competitive environment" always look for Naomi.
Mikey
//that is just silly, childish hyperbole talk//
Not if Momentum gets its way.
Question Author
Mikey, you don’t want to see Marxism/Communism in this country? Well why are you voting for them then? What do you think Corbyn’s ambition is … and what about McDonnell, the man who has told us quite bluntly that he will create a run on the pound? Business is quaking in its boots at the prospect of that lot gaining access to power because companies will be alienated and jobs will go. Insult me all you like, Mikey, but that’s what you’re voting for and it’s not smart.
What do these scruffy layabout wasters know about communism that all the other countries who tried it and failed didn't?

Yer wee man Corbyn strikes me as the kindof guy who, if elected, would shut down all public forums immediately, take over the TV stations and post armed guards on every corner.

Just to keep us safe from ourselves of course and on a purely temporary basis, until the well-oiled machine of socialism is up and running again.

My biggest disappointment is the centre based parties, all sitting about the place navel gazing instead of getting out there and grabbing the silent but I suspect overwhelming majority who want no extremes, left or right.

Maybe Tony feels the same and has returned to free his people.
Dougie...

"Yer wee man Corbyn strikes me as the kind of guy who, if elected, would shut down all public forums immediately, take over the TV stations and post armed guards on every corner"

Was that a serious comment to make ?
Question Author
Mikey, Douglas has asked a pertinent question. //What do these scruffy layabout wasters know about communism that all the other countries who tried it and failed didn't? //

What do you think?
“The Marxians love of democratic institutions was a stratagem only, a pious fraud for the deception of the masses. Within a socialist community there is no room left for freedom.”

Ludwig von Mises
Naomi....I don't think that "Corbyn will shut down all public forums immediately, take over the TV stations and post armed guards on every corner"
