Its quite clear that the Officer had no need to kill this man, so how can he have been found not guilty ?

Is it any wonder that the American Police are losing their credibility ?

If the Police can get away with killing innocent people like this, purely on the strength that they "might" pose a danger to the Officers life, than they can get away with anything......there have been far too many killings by trigger-happy American Police.
Mikey, //If the Police can get away with killing innocent people like this, purely on the strength that they "might" pose a danger to the Officers life...//

What do you want the police to do? Wait and see if the suspect actually kills one of them - and then act?

///and he was unarmed, and no danger to the Police///

Isn't hindsight a wonderful thing?
Clairvoyance is better. ;o)
Question Author
No Naomi....I expect the Police to shoot anyone they like, just in case.
Mikey, don't you think that response is just a little ... childish? ;o)
It sounds sarcastic to me ... which will upset gulliver.

A completely innocent and unarmed man has been killed by a Police Officer and apparently nobody is to blame...its nobodies fault....the Officer was just doing his job. And the Officer in question said that if the same situation was to happen again, he would kill again.

Amazing.
//Texas man was a pest control worker, visiting Arizona on business. He was showing off a pellet gun to two other guests he had met that night. Police reported to a call that someone was pointing a gun out of a fifth-floor window, leading to the fatal showdown.

He begged and cried before he died. “Please do not shoot me,” Daniel begged in the video. The officers instructed Daniel to crawl down the hallway, which he does while sobbing. The fatal mistake comes when Daniel reaches back, possibly to pull up his shorts. Phillip, who testified that he “believed 100 percent that he was reaching for a gun,” opened fire and shot Daniel five times.//

Truly awful for all concerned, a moment's all it takes sometimes - his poor family.
Question Author
Mamy...my sympathy is with his family as well, who have filed a suit against Mesa County, although I am not sure what good it will bring them.
A tragedy but one that can only happen in a place where the police are trained to expect that everyone is going to be armed. It would just be impossible in the UK where in the whole of 2016 the entire police force only fired 7 shots in total.

The figures for the USA do not exist as firing is considered routine and is not accounted for, however around 1000 people year are shot dead by police in the USA.
917 so far this year

The Officer appears to have followed his Training to the letter.

If the Guy had done as he was told, and nothing else he would still be with us.
Question Author
It seems that pulling your pants, so that you can crawl to an armed Police Officer is tantamount to being given a death sentence.

///Prosecutors argued that the officer had responded appropriately, according to his training, when Mr Shaver reached towards his waistband - because he believed there was a concealed firearm there///

Baldric...but there wasn't.

we live in rought times Mikey
ten years ago no one would have thought a man ( or men ) with knives ( big ones, the knives I mean ) would be shot on sight police or that no one would say - now wait a minute
but that occurred in London Bridge because they and most others thought their li ves were in imminent danger

The officer thought ( plausible deniability and all that jazz) that the fella was going for a gun and it is lawful ( even in England ) to shoot them - even if there is no gun

( Gibraltar and mark duggan)

but there was nt a gun

doesnt matter it suffices that the police officer reasonably believes there is

frankly I am amazed there arent more dead people erm sort of walking the streets of London

///Baldric...but there wasn't///

The Police Officer did not have the gift of hindsight that you are using, what was he supposed to do, get shot first before reacting?
Question Author
Baldric......I don't know whether you have ever been to the States.

But even if you have, I would urge you to be wary of ever driving a car, entering or leaving a shop or restaurant, or doing anything else completely ordinary or normal..... just in case there is a Policeman nearby, that hasn't had an exciting enough day.
