^ I don't agree with that, that's what remainers like to think. It was about regaining control and sovereignty over our own laws and making our own decisions about the UK - like which kind of light bulb can we buy.....

YMB....what does "control and security of our own nation" mean, if it doesn't mean control of immigration ?
//There is a world of difference between immigrant workers from the EU, and immigrants from other parts of the globe.//

Apart from being very untrue, it is rather racist isnt it?

We should be taking the cream from around the world, wherever that may be. The one exception is that I dont think, as a rich nation, we should take highly trained staaff from poor countries who cannot afford to replace them.

Stuffing the NHS with immigrants from poor countries is wrong, we should train more British people.

so you will stop those from Syria, Iran, African nations but not those from across Europe. Because we need them to pick turnips and man the stations in our hospitals..
It means we make our decisions on what we want to do. Immigration is one topic but there are many others. Think bendy bananas :-)

ymb
same thinking, we should be training our own people, and try and retain the ones we have, especially in the NHS.
YMB....yes I agree....we should be training our own people, but the simple fact is that we haven't, at least not as many as we need.

When I visit my brother who has been in Hospital, on and off for over 5 years, at least half the Nursing Staff are not white and British born. How would he and all the other patients manage without them ?
Mikey does another scan of the room and instantly knows the demographics and ethnicity of every person in it.

I shall call you DemoMan from now on.

I agree that the extra money is well spent.

'Not White' easy to spot.
'Not British born' how do you know that?
Baldric....you are in and out of Hospital a lot.....don't you speak to the staff ?
Question Author
generally one is caring for the sick not asking the nursing staff their ethnicity surely?
There is a world of difference between immigrant workers from the EU, and immigrants from other parts of the globe.

Which means what exactly?

Of course I do, but I don't usually ask about their place of birth.

you haven't answered my question 13.00
Can I ask WHY doesn't the UK train enough doctors and nurses ? Doesn't anyone want those careers anymore ? Here it is very very unusual to find a foreign doctor or nurse in the national health service.
You don't need to ask where they were born, their accent tells you whether they were born in Britain or not.
Not really sure what you mean Emmie ? But my point of needing some immigration still stands. As far as I know, the vegetable fields of Britain seem to be staffed by Eastern Europeans, not by people from sub-Saharan Africa.
I remember when I was young some women and children in the school holidays would go tatie picking. I don't think that happens anymore.

///their accent tells you whether they were born in Britain or not///

Our long term Guest was born in India, works for the NHS, and her accent is more Middle Class (hate that term) English than mine.
Mikey....so by your logic.... if you are correct..Brexiteers voted to fix leaky borders and were concerned about immigration..so that must mean that Remainers voted to create more leaky borders and let everyone in.
Mikey, do you not think there is enough Immigrant people entering this country Via Dover? do you not think the NHS, Schools, Hospitals, Housing, Employment is in a Ell of a state as it is & can not coupe? where are these people going to live, there is a housing crisis as it is.
