If it increases turnout by preventing apathy then it’s a good thing. We need to engage young people with politics.

The first time our daughter voted we had a chat to her and explained the procedure and told her who we would be voting for and why. We took her to the Polling Station and went into the booths; I voted and came out and then heard "Dad, who did you say I had to vote for?" The look on the official's face had to be seen to be believed.

The last election was the first time my two eldest kids were both allowed to vote.
The wife told them they should vote Labour.
I told them to do some research.
Daughter voted Labour because she thought Jeremy was going to make her student debts vanish.
Son voted Conservatory because he believed Labour were lying for votes ... he also believes Corbyn is bonkers.

Naomi....intellectual maturity doesn't magically begin on someones 18th birthday. I know many people much older than that who show little knowledge and application when it comes to politics.
But whatever we all think of this, its going to happen here in Wales and the law has already been changed in Scotland.
I am sure that the same arguments were made in the late 60's, when it was first planned that the voting age was changed from 21 to 18.
I am also aware that the same spurious logic was used to prevent women from voting, and even when the law was changed, 100 years ago, women had to be 30 !
But whatever we all think of this, its going to happen here in Wales and the law has already been changed in Scotland.

That’s what I said - except I used fewer words. Plenty of examples of that.

And no doubt it will, quite rightly, be made again in a further 20 years when some nincompoop declares that 12 year olds should have the vote.

43% of 18-19 year olds didn’t vote in the last General Election. I’m sure the reasons for this are manifold but, clearly, politics for young voters aren’t a priority.

Danny....is that 16 year old lad indicative of the general feeling amongst all 16 year olds ?.......I don't know the answer to that question !
Its clear that during the 2017 Election, the younger the voter was, the more they voted for Labour.
So, is this the real reason why most people on here this morning are against lowering the voting age ?
