Good ! If people are being taxed, then they deserve the right to vote...why not ?

If it increases turnout by preventing apathy then it’s a good thing. We need to engage young people with politics.

I wonder how many of that 70 % were marched up to the booth by their parents

Kids Gromit?
Mikey, I’ve been agreeing with the proposal for the last hour or so.
lefty leaners can also live in the shires, so that doesn't always run true to form.
Like Wiltshire you mean, emmie? Now who’s family home is there........?

Yes but you have fallen down by listening to both sides of the story ... you will never get a BA acting like that.
Yes, sorry Talbot. My bad, as the yooof say.

I am 53 and I have only ever voted Labour once. That was my first time voting (I was 19) and was a protest vote. I was always unconvinced by Kinnock and Blair. John Smith was shaping up to be someone I could have supported to be Prime Minister, but then he died.
not mine that's for sure...

Zacs....your support for the law change seems rather difficult to see, amongst you constant disagreeing with me.

You are entitled to disagree with me, of course, but it makes your support somewhat fuddled.

Just saying !
Gromit, //If voting is based on perceived ‘maturity’ then we would never be able to have an election.//

Just a little Gromit-style spin there.
If I had my way I would raise the voting age to 50, with a minimum requirement of at least two A Levels.
gromit
are you saying that many people are dim, especially when it comes to voting, tut tut...
naomi24
Think of all the terrible Governments the ‘mature’ voters have elected.
Question Author
Jack...I am left wondering how many that would leave with the vote, here on AB !

I am 65 coming up, but as to the 2 A Levels........
emmie
Quite the opposite. In fact I think it is you saying that.

I am saying it doesn’t matter if people are dim (or bright) they are allowed an equal say. Which is why I do not agree with you that 16 year olds should be forbidden from voting because they are dim (not mature).
Looks like I have to assume you don't have children Gromit.

So to sum up.
A load of old people on Answerbank who have never had day to day intereaction with 16 year olds think that 16 year olds should not be allowed to vote.

I agree with you on Smith ... I think he could have brought a 'Kinder gentler politics' without the not so hidden agenda of Corbyn and his crew.
Mikey, to un-fuddle you; I’m for 16 year olds having the vote for the reasons I gave. I’m against your reasoning on why they voted. I trust that’s clear.
I meant to cross out the 'not' from the C&p

Congratulations on the BA Zacs ,,, lol
Yes, thanks Mikey. Very timely.
-Talbot-

Smith was Labour Lite. When he died we got Blair who was a Conservative Lite. And a fraud.
