indeed.. got to be admired..
Wot no AB Happy Birthday thread?
Done well for himself as a foreigner,

Not like those asylum seekers who take Government handouts, and get free accomodation at the taxpayers expense.

A great role model.
He's a legend! I actually have a book dedicated to his infamous gaffes. Some of them are just hilarious.
Agreed NoM, my definition of a true Alpha Male.
Never liked him much - although I think he's done his duty in supporting the queen over a very long period of time. His 'infamous gaffes' coming from anyone else would have landed them in trouble, but him being a national treasure makes it okay.
he didn't ask to be in the book Sqad !! I dare not presume ! ;0)
naomi......same the whole world over.....it is not WHAT you say it is WHO you are.

In medicine i have heard really stupid comments and opinions over the years, but were accepted because of the prestigious position of the speaker.
Things haven't changed.
To be honest, Naomi, I think it's his politically incorrect wit that has helped to make him a national treasure.

Many people have specifically said that they were not offended by what he said to them, and I daresay it's usually a case of other being offended on their behalf.
NoM - I'd like to read that book - could you tell me name please
Hardly any surprise when he has probably some of the best health care in the world
//Many people have specifically said that they were not offended by what he said to them//

Well, they wouldn't be, would they, because of who he is. It's called sycophancy.
what's the book nom ..? is it on Amazon ? I think he is hilariously good fun..rather like the sozzled uncle at a wedding..he is SO unPC it's sooo funny, and quite refreshing at times
Love the one when he got off a plane and the lady tasked with greeting him asked "How was your flight?". He said "Have you ever flown?". She said "of course". He said "Well, it was like that".
He is and always been a grumpy man, is it any wonder, he's been looking at the back of his wife's head for years !!!!!
Despite all the rumours it is obvious the Queen and Prince Phillip have a wonderful understanding. He has done a fair bit for this country The Duke of Edinburgh awards scheme and his work for charities over the years. Not too sure how he squared his presidency of the World Wildlife fund with his hunting shooting fishing as a lot of species were very endangered when he had his rifle out. Worse people to share a birthday with.
It's called "Prince Philip - Wise Words and Golden Gaffes" by Phil Dampier & Ashley Walton.

I bought it as a stocking filler for my husband. You know, that chap I "settled for" because I was getting desperate ;-)

From the book:

"As he sat with the Queen in the royal box at the Royal Variety Show watching a male stripping scene from The Full Monty, Philip told biographer Gyles Brandreth: 'Don't worry, she's been to Papua New Guinea and seen it all before.' "
He's entertaining in a 'God I'm glad he's not related to me' kind of way and allegedly hilariously good fun mainly probably because he can be, he doesn't have a lot to worry about and can say and do anything he likes, but happy he seems on the mend and Happy Birthday Phil x
He was frightfully handsome in his younger days. I hope he's still got a few years left in him.
will look on Amazon ta
