I'm not sure, NJ. The closest he got was some years ago when he said 'If I were to ask you to marry me, what would you say?'
I think I said 'I'm not sure', and it didn't go any further.
A civil partnership seems like a "marriage-lite" to me. Either do it or don't.
I always thought the key point of Civil Partnership or whatever was to give legal "next of kin" status to gay couples. (A proper and moral consideration in my view).

Conventional marriage is all about preserving the Inheritance Tax exemption for the kids' benefit.

It's strange you take that view, jo. As far as I can see there is nothing "lite" about it at all. It is precisely the same as marriage in virtually every respect.
