Zacs, This ever-present urge to undermine/criticise/abandon Britain and British to whatever comes along never ceases to amaze me. Maybe I’m just not trendy or right on enough, but one thing I do know. You rarely appreciate what you have until you lose it so be careful what you wish for - and if that puts me on a par with aog in this instance, so be it. Looking at...

"Noble position" - that's worth a laugh.

He's making a valid point about Trumps climate change denial, seperating kids from their parents and his ban on muslims from arbitary countries - and you're in a lather because of his dress sense? Get a sense of persepective.
Mothman, Donald Trump doesn't give a hoot about what this embarrassment of a man thinks. You get a sense of perspective.
“I despair of the narrow-minded, sad and bigoted…”

It’s nothing to do with being narrow-minded, sad and/or bigoted, jenny. The President of the USA has been invited to the UK by The Queen. Then, we get a two-bit half- baked local politician announcing that The President is not welcome in “his” city. Let’s leave aside the fact that the creep has no power to ban anybody from the city (least of all the Queen’s guest) and the fact that Mr Trump has no plans to visit there anyway. What on Earth makes Mr Magid think that anybody is the least bit interested in what he thinks of the US President?

I have made no secret of my view that I believe all local politics below national level is a waste of time, energy and taxpayers’ money. All the councils, assemblies and “parliaments” seem to be infested with interfering busybodies who would do the country a far greater service if they were just to go and get a useful job. Sheffield does not need a “Lord Mayor” and Mr Magid would be my star witness should I argue the case against local politics.
mothman: "He's making a valid point about Trumps climate change denial" - were has Trump or anyione else for that matter, denied that the climate is changing?
" seperating kids from their parents"
- That's Obama's policy
" his ban on muslims from arbitary countries"
very sensible, do remember NY? Bali? London?
" Get a sense of persepective." - good advice for you mate!
ah yes..the usual shouts of "racism" when they know youre right but havent a clue how to answer back...

this is how we are losing our identity by allowing clowns like him into positions of "power"...and those that think its fine and dandy , then you are the ones that should be ashamed
I wonder if he is speaking for the whole of Sheffield? I doubt it and he won't be doing himself any favours .If anyone is a ''wasteman'' then he is. The definition is a person lacking in merit and maturity. He has no powers to ban Donald Trump . Lord Mayor??? He's a joke.
We had a vote in Sheffield a couple of years ago on whether we wanted a Mayor or not. We voted no. So they decided we had to have one and this is what we got!

Would he be British if he were born here?
Theoretically - just as he is now.
Naomi, if you perceive that there is a tendency to 'abandon Britain and British' you must have some sort of benchmark against which to measure the abandonment. So, as AOG is unable to quantify what 'British' actually means, could you clarify the parameters you yourself use as said benchmark?
Zacs, I wouldn’t call it a tendency, I’d call it a determination. British values do not include insulting world leaders who are coming to this country by invitation.
Ok. Same question.
Enough said.
Eh? All I've asked you to do is define what 'British' is. You must know if you think it's being 'abandoned'.
I've answered you. That'll do. If you want to wind someone up, try elsewhere.
"Waste of time trying to describe our culture to a person who is not educated enough to be aware of it."

If you're so much better educated than some of us (in your opinion) how come you're not able to write a few sentences or paragraphs describing English culture?

No copying and pasting mind...
naomi24

Theoretically?

What does that mean?

When people are born in Britain, are they not British?
Sp, let me put it this way. Anjem Choudary is British – born here. Enough said.
naomi24

It's axiomatically not enough said.

Are you saying that people who are born in the UK from foreign-born parents are not British, or are only not British under certain circumstances?

Is Prince Philip not British?
