He was in charge of Brexit and he FAILED to move forward so May had to take over - he had that in mind all along the cunning [fill in yourself].
Everyone would fail to move forward when faced with a brick wall.
The only debatable error was continuing to try to negotiate with a group who weren't interested, rather than cut one's losses and go earlier. I think trying to negotiate was the right thing to do even if all that's hapoened is a PM wanting to give what was oreviously agreed not on the table. She even wants the UK to be an EU tax collector, to boot.
